The Test cycle, for the beginner to advanced lifter.

This should be the first cycle you ever consider doing, it can also be used as a stand alone compound for many later cycles.

Just starting on the path of the darkside.

As a new user a testosterone cycle will give you the best value in gains to side effects and money to results. There are indeed quite a few other compounds out there you could call "safer", but there's nothing like test for a first cycle. It lets you know how your body will react to supraphysiological levels of androgens and anabolics while keeping your libido happy.

The Fisher Price "My First Cycle"

A simple, cheap, and effective first cycle.

Compounds:
Testosterone enanthate or cypionate
Clomid
Nolvadex

Structure:
1-10 500mg/week of Test
12-14 150mg/day clomid
15-16 50mg/day clomid
12-16 40mg/day nolvadex

Most people will find they can use this cycle for at least their first two and will get reasonable and keepable gains from it.


The advanced athlete test only cycle

Compounds:
Testosterone enanthate or cypionate.
anastrozole
clomid
nolvadex
hcg

Structure:
1-14 1500mg/week test
1-16 1mg eod anastrozole
4-16 500iu/week hcg
16-18 150mg/day clomid
19-20 50mg/day clomid
16-20 40mg/day nolvadex

This is a cycle for the advanced athlete that doesn't want to spend a lot of money, can't currently get other compounds, or just wants to run a single compound for a change of pace.

Most people would consider this as a cycle after a couple years of usage. Their usual regimen of compounds would have exceeded the combined 2g/week mark by this point.

As ratmonkey pointed out, testosterone is the king of all compounds. Many people worry about the sides you might get on test, but I strongly feel that testosterone is one of the safest anabolics. After all, your body is already making it. Test only cycles should be where you begin.

If you are looking for a testosterone only cycle, and dont mind the frequent injections, consider using testosterone propionate.

Since the propionate ester has a much shorter half-life than the cypionate or enanthate esters, more frequent injections are required, and PCT starts sooner after the cycle ends.

Another added benefit of propionate is that since the ester is smaller, you actually get more raw hormone (testosterone) per mg of injection. That means 350mg of prop is roughly equal to 500mg of enanthate.

Beginners Test-prop only cycle

ingredients:
Testosterone Propionate
Clomid
Nolvadex

Week 1-10
100mg test prop injected every other day (EOD). Day 1, 3, 5, 7... etc.

3 days after last injection begin PCT:

2 weeks of 150mg/day clomid followed by
2 weeks of 50mg/day clomid followed by
2 weeks of 40mg/day nolvadex followed by
2 weeks of 20mg/day nolvadex

you may include HCG if you feel it is necessary.

How do I know when to up my dosages and how much should I add?

This is a question everyone is plagued with when they continue their journey using anabolic compounds. There is no real "right" answer to that question, no one can tell you exactly how you'll react and how soon you'll need to up the dosages or add compounds.

For most everyone starting anabolics, you'll find that 500mg of test a week is going to be more than enough, heck I'd wager most everyone can get away with using 500mg/week for at least their first two cycles. This doesn't mean you can't start adding other compounds for your second cycle, but the majority of people will still gain reasonably from that dosage through 2 solid 10 week cycles. The effectiveness of your first few cycles will be determined more by your diet and training regimin than your drug choices as most people aren't quite to their genetic limits where gaining really gets difficult.

With every subsequent cycle you do you should be holding more mass at the start than your last cycle, barring injury or time off due to uncontrollable circumstances, this usually means that you have more receptors for that golden nectar and you'll need a bit more juice in your cycle just for the maintenance of that extra mass. I can't honestly sit here and say i have all the answers to how much more you'll need, but everyone will agree, as you cycle you need to up your dosages.
How much you up your dosage is really personal preference, a lot of people would like to find the optimal dose to gain while keeping sides at a minimum, while others will ram head first into the highest doses they can cram into their muscles. I feel that unless you are adding a new compound to provide for more anabolism you should up your dosages by around 15-25% every cycle or two. You can get by the need to up your overall dosages if you want by rotating in new compounds that either have increased anabolic or increased androgenic effects allowing for more tissue generation with the lower dosages.
