am i doing everything right?
Hey there guys, looking for some advice.
Just recently got into working out and love it now I'm 1 and half months in. I currently weigh 220. I am 6'4 and 21yo. I am around 25% bf I believe and wana be down to 8% to 10% and build the muscle to have a great lean fit body. My question is how to go about it. Do I do a bunch of cardio then hit weights after I slim down? I currently go to the gym 6 to 7 days a week. I do weights 4 days back/bis chest/tris, legs, neck/shoulders. Then just run and bike other days. Also taking whey protein and creatine My diet is clean I consider. Around 150-200 grams of protein, almost no carbs, and around 1500 calories. Also note I have lost around 20lbs but worried it is muscle as well as fat. Just would like any input I can get. Am I doing OK or should I change things around to meet my goals? Thanks |
Sounds like you have the proper motivation and goals, however your tactics may be a bit off especially surrounding your diet. 1500 calories is a huge deficit and maybe a little too much. If your goal is to lose body fat and gain muscle, it's going to be a slow, but steady process.
For your current weight and height, your calorie intake should be higher than that to create a caloric deficit. I'm 5'11 and roughly 175-180 in the offseason. When I want to cut down for a comp or shoot, I'm still at the very minimum taking in 1900 calories. You want to make sure you're losing fat, but at the same time not wasting too much muscle. When you lose super fast, you have a higher chance of digging into your hard earned muscle. Slow and steady man. Get your diet in check and figure out your base maintenance caloric intake and adjust accordingly from there! Keep going at it and read as much as you can on proper dieting and cutting/building lean mass! Knowledge will help you out so much! Cheers |
OK thank you. Will deff bump it up a little. How do you think my workout routine looks? Should I do more running and less lifting to cut better?

Yeah, 1500 kcals a day is definitely not enough for a 220 lb person who hits the gym every day. I am currently cutting (about 220 also) and still eat about 2800 kcals a day. That way, you minimize muscle loss and still lose about a half lb. to a lb. a week.

checking back in
Hey there, its been a month and a half or so. I kept everything the same but bumped up to 2000-2200 Cal a day.
My biggest question is my weight. I am staying between 205-210. And have been for 2, almost 3 weeks. Any ideas or input? |

Yeah I'd be interested. I have a lot of drive and determination just not enough experience to know what I do right and wrong
