Hi guys,

I am a bit desperate for help. Here is a little about me. I started as a small skinny kid but around 12/13 I started to get big and I kept getting bigger. My mom is big and my dad is tall but not big. I got my mom's genes I guess. I am engaged to a beautiful Latina woman and although she tells me constantly that She likes me how I am and that I'm sexy to her, for me It is not what I want. I hate how I look in the mirror and I hate that I don't want to go to a water park because I want to keep my shirt on. I need to make a change and I stumbled on this site and I was hoping that I could get some help. I want to loose weight and tone up. I'd rather be Thin and have a few muscles but Muscular definition is not that important to me. I know this will have to be something that I do for myself and not for anyone else. I'd rather tackle this myself but I know my girl would support me. I just don't want my boobs to get bigger than hers.


I am 24 years old about 280 Lbs 6ft and of South American Descent. I have a gym at my college Local to me and I have about 1.5 hours a day to work out at that Gym and then I can work out at home. I don't have much of a home gym but I am purchasing a BowFlex and some Free Weights in a week or so. I have made some changes to my diet already but I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or potentiall harmful.

I am drinking water and only water. I purchased and only snack on fruits, (apples,peaches,berries,grapes.)

I would appreciate some help but if no one can then I understand and I guess I would have to take my plight someplace else. Help for me is a guide, or just a friendly point in the right direction. I am willing to put in the work to accomplish my goal.

I think your best place to start would be to calculate your current caloric intake using a site such as FitDay.com. Spend a few days plugging in the foods you eat and you should come to an understanding of exactly how many calories you are actually consuming each day. Most people are really surprised on how much they actually eat and where those calories are coming from, do yourself a favor and be honest in your logging otherwise you are just cheating yourself. Once you have that information you can begin making changes to your diet.

When you have that information you can reference a caloric intake calculator and determine how many calories you have to cut in order achieve your goals. Of course these aren't 100% accurate, but they give you a general idea of what you need to do to lose the weight. Here is one from WebMD: http://www.webmd.com/diet/calc-bmi-plus

Other than that I would suggest reading up on the stickies in the nutrition and training forum for some general advice and feel free to hit us up with more specific questions.

Yeah i know you have heard it before but its really simple.
Burn more calories then you take in. If you can really grasp this and put what your are eating and your working out on paper its simple math.
Cut out the crap food! Give yourself a cheat day. Get a nice beginners workout and do some cardio a few days a week to get going. Don't go crazy at first and overdo it. You will just disappoint yourself. Take it easy in the beginning and keep at it.
Give your self 2 months of real dedication and at the end of those 2 months you will be hearing from others "wow did you lose weight" "you look great" that is all it will take for you to keep going. GOod luck to you!! you can do it man!!!

Don't go on a crash diet, because that is what you will do, crash! Ditching sodas and stuff is a good start, but allow yourself a treat, maybe one a week. Also, start with mild to moderate cardio, walking, epilitical trainer, get your heart rate elevated, and maintain that for 20 minutes or so, don't give yourself a heart attack though. Lifting weights is also very important, find your one rep max and start off at about 65% of that, then gradually increase the weight and reps. Good luck I've been there, when your sexy latina fiance sees you grinding it out and getting slim and trim, she will like it. Goodluck!

As they say, recognizing the problem is the first step--that's corny but true.

You may first want to visit a dr and just make sure you don't have any medical problems.

Cutting out liquid calories (except for milk) is a great first step. But as someone previously mentioned, you have to get an idea of how many calories you are eating and make some adjustments.

Weight training and cardio will also help you reach your fitness goals.

I like the advice about cutting out the liquid calories, but I'm a huge energy drink fanatic. I'm curious to know whether or not that 150-250 calories that are in each of those drinks get burned off as your drinking them. Seeing as your body becomes more alert, heart pumps a little fasters, ect. Maybe those energy drinks burn off more in the long run then water would? what do you guys think?
