Cool Dieting Days Question

I'm carb cycling and I read some interesting articles on how you can cycle your days. I saw two different weekly cycles that caught my eye. one was:

Monday = No Carb
Tuesday = Low Carb
Wednesday = High Carb
Thursday = No Carb
Friday = Low carb
Saturday = High Carb+
Sunday = Low Carb

And the other was:

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday -- no carb days
Tuesday and Saturday -- high carb days
Thursday and Sunday -- low carb days

Which one would you all recommend?

If your trying to lose fat via ketosis, I wouldnt go with either of those. Go moderate on monday, then low until saterday morning when you depleate with a full body workout, then carb up. The longer your in ketosis the better your fat loss will be. If you can handle it for that long of a period.

The first one looks like Twin Peak's recommended "lifestyle carb cycling" approach. I like it and have used it effectively.

Make sure to match your training days to the high-carb days and your cardio days to the low carb days and you should be golden.

IMO, getting into ketosis isn't all it's cracked up to be. You can use fat effectively without fully depleting all glycogen. ;)

Cool

I'm a 5'9 198lb female. I currently do a split workout doing lower body mon/thurs and upper body tues/fri. For cardio I do Hiit 20 min in the morning tues/wed and fri/sat. On mon and thurs morning I do 30 min elliptical and also I do two a days. In the am I do half of my weight training followed by cardio and then in the evening I do the other half and then Mon and wed I do a cardio class at my gym. The other days out the week I play basketball full court for about 45 min to an hour.

wow, you are very active. What was your diet like before you wanted to do a carb cycle diet? Reason I'm asking is with an active life style like this, it would seem like you would need more carbs/ moderate carbs in you diet so you don't slow down your metabolism. Of course I would have to see how many carbs you were taking in before.

Cool

Before I started carb cycling I was eating about 125- 160 grams carbs daily. Now on low carb days I eat about 40-70- grams and high carb days I eat about 100-150 grams. I do well with incorporating low carbs in my diet because i'am very carb sensitive and even with me being that active I still don't feel sluggish to where i can't do my cardio and weight training effectively. I usually feel a little sluggish on thurs but I work through it because I up my carbs the next day.

I've seen that approach work also, personally I dont like it ... but thats just my prefrence.

And your right, getting into ketosis shouldnt be the main focus. I like the way lyle has the UD2 set up, and that has worked well for me in the past. but IMO at 198lbs you would be best served by using a CKD to drop as much fat as possible before switching to something like the ud2.

What did you not like it? The one thing I liked about it is that it's pretty easy to understand and can be leveraged without counting calories. Good for folks who just won't be detail oriented as much as you try to make them, LOL.

I do prefer UD2 - it's a bit more complicated, but produces superior results when followed. But I agree with you - unless you are sub-15%, one doesn't need to worry about it.

My opinion - any men over 15% bodyfat (woment over 20% or so) can lose weight fairly readily with a basic isocaloric diet at a reasonable deficit.
