Lose fat or gain muscle?
So i wanna lose 30-50 lbs by next september. But i also wanna bulk up muscles. Should i lose fat first or gain muscle first?

Ok, here's the deal....start dropping weight, keep protein intake high. You will begin too lose weight, also: 4 sets of 8 reps for all exercises but abs. You will look good if you are disciplined and patient.

I think you must do lose your fat first, then build up your muscle. Hmm you may also try doing this at the same time.

good, thanks for sharing.

You can do both if you are fairly new to training. But the longer you've been training the less likely you can effectively work on both goals at the same time. Be sure you have your diet in order--can't out-train a crappy diet.

Having more muscle mass increases your metabolism, so losing fat would be easier if you already had some good muscle mass. I wouldn't recommend trying to do both cos you'll probably end up going nowhere, keep it simple and make sure to set goals along your way.

You may also want to look into a more intermittent fasting way of dieting. Ferruggia's Renegade Diet is good if you are more intermediate/advanced and have already build some of your foundation as far as muscle mass goes.
Just keep in mind that the muscle gains come more slowly after your first year or two of training. |
Weight Loss
You might as well start losing fat first, the first few months of working out it should fly off. Do some moderate cardio, combined with light weights. Focus on perfecting your form for when you want to start getting serious about muscle.
Don't jump into a super intense diet at first, go slowly into it. The more weight you lose the more encouraged you will be to eat better. Losing weight is hard, but very rewarding... I just lost 40 lbs recently and that is what worked for me. |
This worked for me
I lift for about 45 minutes, and followed up with 20 to 30 minutes of medium intensity cardio.
Count your calories and eat lean. |
I think you should drop the weight first. Then proceed with building muscle mass. Also, make sure your workout is something you enjoy and that it's something you will never miss.
