Warm Water Vs Cold?

My friend at the gym today was telling me that drinking warm water through out the day will keep your metabolism higher then drinking cold water because the cold usually slows things down i suppose. Was just wondering if anyone else has ever heard if this is true.

First of all the difference would be so insignificant in the sceme of things it's hardly something to worry about. But while cold water may slow down digestion your body has to in essence warm it up so cold water will require you body to burn more energy...not that it's so very significant.

I like warm water better. (Room temp). I've always thought it was better for the digestive system.

The other day I made the mistake of using cold water out of the fridge for my pre shake and ended up with nausea and a stomach ache for the entire workout. I almost threw up. I went and got some warm water (tepid) and it helped a lot.

I've had that same problem....Plus protein powder dosen't mix very well with the cold water.

warm water is discusting IMO, especially if your mixing protien and other things in it. I couldnt imagine drinking warm protien water, I just threw up a little in my mouth.

I just use tap water for my shakes - not cold, not warm, just basic. I like cold water for just general drinking purposes, though.

EricT 10-12-2007 09:31 AM

I'm not talking really warm. Really just plain tap water. Just not "chilled". I agree...I can't stand actual heated water. Same as Cradler, I use cold for general drinking, it's just the workout thing that causes the problem.

ya...room temp is perfect. I dont even plug the water cooler in at home.

ya

yeah i didnt think it would matter but i figuered id get ur guys input.

FlawedGRUNT 11-15-2007 11:33 AM

They say that cold water requires your body to warm it up so you burn a little bit more energy

and with warm water i was always told in the Marines that warm water hydrates you faster... not sure why but probably cause you body doesnt have to warm it up!

EricT 11-15-2007 12:07 PM

Yeah you're right. The water can't be absorbed until it is warmed to body temperature.

Frontline 11-15-2007 01:08 PM

Cold water does need to heated up by the body but as far as any impact on fat loss its pretty insignificant as far as the extra calorie expenditure.

EricT 11-15-2007 02:33 PM

^^^Yeah, Sleazy that whole thing is blown out of proportion.

IronKitten 11-19-2007 09:59 PM
