Default When did your metabolism slow?

At what age did you notice that your metabolism slowed down? You can choose more than one if it happened more than once.

Thats a tough question to answer, I've gone through so many changes that its hard to tell if it even has, or if I'm just eating like shit.

many people blame metabolic rate for putting on a few lbs, when in reality they have let themselves slip.

I peronsally dont think mine has slowed at all.

I'm 38 and there is no way I could say whether my metabolism has really changed for the same reasons Hrdgain said. Hell, when I was the proverbial skinny weakling the truth is a barely ate. My fatter friends would always be thinking I can eat as much as I want and never gain...what they didn't realize is that when we were all "feasting" it was pretty much my only meal of the day.

I still don't gain fat very easily but I eat much much more so I am not as cut up as I was then.

I gotcha. Based on other posts since I started the thread, I gathered that the average person would really have no idea. I didn't consider that when I posted the question. But after having realized that, the results are still interesting although I don't think they necessarily pertain to the stated question.

I am not sure if mine has slowed or not. I ran at least 3 miles a day, every day, from age 12-17. I stayed active when I was 18, and played soccer year round when I was 19 & 20. I was inactive for 7 months after turned 21, then started to diet and lift seriously. I wasn't eating nearly as much during the 7 inactive months, so of course I didn't gain. I just realized that I don't have a good answer to this question. Shit, maybe I'll be able to answer when I'm old like Eric.
