I would think you'd see a shit load of bodybuilders with kidney failure. I've yet to see that. It's up to you, but you'll never grow to your potential without enough protein. You can't build a brick wall with a bunch of workers and no bricks.

ash, protein is not bad for u. there is no such thing as excess protein if there is excess water. so if u have a shitload of protein powder and a lot of water, ur fine.

we use a simple scale to calculate how much protein one should have.

1.5 x ur bodyweight = xxx grams of protein.

so lets say u weight 200 lbs. in that case, ur protein intake will be

1.5 x 200 = 300 grams of protein per day

now, even if u go upto 350 its fine provided ur drinking a lot of water.

protein powder is good for u and u shouldnt worry so much about it. ask me. i am petrified of supplements but stuff like whey, weightgainers, BCAAs are cool in my book because they wont kill me.

also: dont always listen to doctors. while some of them know what they are talking about, a lot of them dont. if urs told u that all protein powders are bad, then i dont think he knows what he is talking about.

u mentioned amino acids. ur protein powders ARE amino acids. so is the meat u eat. remember: supplements are there to supplement ur diet - not replace it. so if u eat a LOT of meat then ur gonna get ur protein requirements through that right away.

also, protein shakes are good pre and post workout meals. they arent meals as a whole, but they are good ad ons.

right now at ur stage u need to accept the fact that ur tiny and scrawny and u need to get big. the only way to do that is to train correctly and eat more than enough. u need to eat a LOT to be honest.

so read up the articles pasted here, post ur questions and enjoy ur stay as u try to get big and strong.

peace

Sentinel

Ash, in order to grow to your potential you need to train hard, get the proper rest and feed the body with quality nutrients. To max out your potential you definitely need protein and for most people their diet is simply not enough. Sentinel gave you a lot of good information on taking protein powders and increasing your water intake. Protein is NOT bad for you at all and will help transform you into the monster you want to be. Train hard and good luck.

wow u guys have alot of information...thx for ur advice sentinel, i will start using ur formula soon....i didnt actually ask my doctor about the protein damage stuff btw, i just heard it from my friends...they told me if u need to get big then u gotta take protein supplements and some told me that it will damage ur kidneys....what u said about the excess water will stop the damage of excess proteins was very logical and i think u may be right about that, Sentinel.

Widoes, ur a pro and what u said was great advice. Thanks dude and good luck to u too.

Good Luck to all bodybuilders here. Peace

That is bullshit. People rely on doctors even when they dont know their stuff.

I just had a blood and urine test done. I have consumed massive amounts of protein powder for 17 years now, in addition to high protein food. There was some protein in my urine meaning that I eat over the consumption and some protein passes my kidneys. Absolutely no problem at all. Krea -values were good.

Muscles are built with protein. If you want to gain muscle you have to make sure that your body gets all it needs. A protein deficit will not bring you results.

^^ good post

im just wanting to remind everyone: Ash is uneducated when it comes to bodybuilding nutrition so dont overhwelm him. instead, give him links which will help him learn. because im afraid he's just going to get scared reading some of the posts here (mine too).

ASH: dont worry about it. u need to eat a lot of protein. protein powders are good for u. i used to be afraid of them at one time (and i am fucking petrified of all supplements in general) but i got convinced into having whey and im very happy with the results. dont be afraid to consume protein. its important if u want to get big or strong or both or lean or all three. protein is the key. remember that. if ur having biryani then forget the protein because biryani fucking rocks
