Default During Workout Drink

hi

i wanted to know:
everyone says that having some carb-type drink while working out is good.

my questions is:
is it possible for me to make my own carb shake (cost efficient of course)? and if i can, how should i go about making it?

thanks

ps: i hate gatorade - its too sweet for me

thanks guys

Well, there are many places to buy dextrose and maltodextrin.

NOW Foods is a cost effective company that supplies both these dirt cheap:

Carbo-Gain: 7 lbs maltodextrin- $12.99
Dextrose: 2 lbs- $2.00

My personal favorite is from Trueprotein.com. Their maltodextrin IMO is a lot better and finer than NOW and costs $2.29 per pound.

A lot of people like a dextrose/malto combo PREworkout. I personally don't because the I crash pretty hard halfway through my workout from the dextrose. You could easily do 50 grams of maltodextrin 30 minutes before working out. I like my preworkout formulas to have only maltodextrin and BCAA's.

What I have been doing for the past month with phenominal success is putting 50 grams of waxy maize starch, 3 grams cee, and 3 scoops EAA's in my shake that I drink about 20 minutes before the gym... Zooom

Anuj, regardless of how you make it, your carb drink is gonna be sweet. Perhaps throwing in the BCAA's, or EAA's will tone that down a little, but your still drinking sugar water.

Play with it and see what you like most. And if you want to go even cheaper, try gaterade powder, then just use extra extra water, that way it wont be so sweet.

I think maybe you're putting the horse before the carriage. I'm all for sipping some carbs during the workout but we're not talking endurance work here. I take it your having energy problems or what have you and, to me, the first thing you should consider is what you're doing BEFORE the workout rather than during. 0311 alluding to pre workout not during.

I have no problem with a malto/dex combo but some people can't handle dex. I would warn you that malto actually tastes sweeter than dex (dex is 4 times less sweet than table sugark, I think). WMS is def you best choice so you can make it as sweet as you like. If you can afford it. If not be a man and chug down something with malto/dex OR take in more whole carbs 45 minutes to an hour before your workout. I don't drink my pre shake cuz it's tasty.

As far as during yeah I agree, gatorade or whatever simply cuz I think it's the least important of you concerns. Your drinking milk and sometimes even two scoops of whey. That's not really that many carbs and depending on how long you wait a lot of that is probably still in you stomach while you workout. What good do you think that is doing?

One drink that worked for me was :

PowerAid (I know you don't like it)
Whey Cooler (It's a protein powder that is a juice (ie,ice tea)it's by PVL

This gives the benifits of the carbs, electro lights and 30g of protein, very good gaines.

HMMM...Whey Cooler is an isolate that I'm not sure is available in the U.S. I think it's UK and Canada but I could be wrong. I only mention it cuz Sentinel is in the states.
