| Sigh... Visit some vegan bodybuilding forums. You'll see that it is possible for them to make gains, but they don't get huge. This might come as a shock, but you're not a gorrilla. If you eat nothing but fruits and vegetables you will not be gaining much muscle. A good protein source is one which itself is high in protein. You should make each meal consist of a lean protein, a starchy carb and a fibrous vegetable. While some carb sources may contain some protein, its best to get your protein from lean meat. |

Gender: | BTW, gorillas eat around 40 POUNDS of vegetation a day. I used to be a vegetarian. I have nothing against it at all. But I can tell you it is very difficult to gain even as a lacto-ovo let alone as a vegan. When I stopped being a vegetarian it was because I got tired of seeing my hard work in the gym go down the drain. |

Gender: | I sure could use a gorilla like bench though haha. Wonder what they can squat? Probably not as much considering they spend alot of time on all 4's. I bet that deadlift would be ridiculous though |

also it is my understanding that foods like rice and bread do not contain all the essential amino acids, so the protien percentage may be decent but it's incomplete. | |

| Rank: New Member Experience: > 1 Year | oh, by no means am I eating only vegetable protein I'm taking in a can of salmon everyday too, and milk and eggs also doesn't seem to be irritating my kidney stones too much one thing I would caution about protein intake is that they contain acids that are released in processing, and this has to be removed by the body if you don't take in a proportionately greater amount of fruits and veggies that contain alkaloids to help balance out the acidity of your body, you will actually remove calcium from your bones to counter it acidosis is actually a major cause of osteoporosis, and can lead to kidney stones (like mine!) and arthritis, as well as hardening of the arteries all of that extra calcium from your bones floating around in your blood stream will start to accumulate, and form glass like shards of calcium oxlate that build up into kidney stones, can collect in arteries and restrict bloodflow, and collect in your joints wearing down cartilage like sand in an engine I'm not trying to advocate vegetarianism, but rather based on my research and personal experience, suggest that people who are taking in extra protein should make sure that they are also eating proportionately more veggies and fruits to counter act the acidity another interesting thing, body fat is stored as fatty acids and there is some evidence to suggest that fat burning can be greatly increased with a greater intake of fruits and veggies I'm definately seeing positive results after changing my diet, I'm doing 50 pushups in under a minute now, with no residual soreness |
