Can you link us to some more information? I can only speak for myself but I am not capable of recalling every supplement of every kind ever made. I will say, though, that if you don't know what it does for you, don't pick it up just yet.

Just pick up a tub of whey protein. Cost effective and better nutritional value.

To answer your orignal questions
1) Acts as a RTD MRP (Ready to drink meal replacement)
2) In the worst case where you cant get a meal in.
3) Its RTD.

Protein builds lean muscle buddy. ON is really good it has very little sugar... and it contains pretty good amount of protein and cal... I'll blend 4 scoops with 2%fat milk and pour it into a jug and thats my shake through out the day... thats about 1000 calories and about 150g
of protein

^^ I wouldnt worry too much about what it says in terms of how much liquid to put with 1 scoop. 99% of the time if you follow those guidlines, you wont get all the powder to mix.

the timing of the shakes really depends on your goals, taking it before your workout with a moderate amount of carbs (dextrose/maltodextrin) will help muscle output. While taking it with a generous amount of carbs post workout will help muscle recovery.
(I would suggest doing both)

from a dietary stand point, if your trying to increase lean body mass, it would be helpful to use shakes whenever you cant get in solid foods, in order to hit your total protien intake for the day.
