Gender: | Newbie’s Guide to Gaining Muscle and Losing Fat. The Rant of Dr X. If seen this question asked 1000 times and I need to vent. So you’re new to the game of bodybuilding. You’ve been reading the magazines that make promises of rock hard abs in 6 weeks. Or lose 30lbs in 30 days and you are pumped. You see pictures of Olympians holding a jug of creatine and you know you are ready to take the plunge. Heck you even joined a forum. And what’s the first thing you ask. How do I gain muscle and lose fat. These questions are then followed up by how do I get abs, a big chest and biceps. And some, (o don’t get me started) some even go so far as to ask for steroid advice. Now much to the credit of veteran forum members, you have tried countless times to guide these newbie’s in the right direction. Myself included. We have posted stickes, we have critiqued diets and training and still you ask the same questions. Let me tell you something Mr. 6’2” 160lb guy. You will never find your abs because you are starving yourself on 800 calories a day. No matter how hard you try that little roll of fat won’t go away. What little muscle tissue you have left will depart, but that fat will stay. Why? Because you are dying. I suggest you bulk you ass off for the next 2 years with a proper diet that has been laid out countless times and squat and dead lift until you puke, and you will have those bi’s and abs you want. And here is a little surprise for you. You will have gained a great amount of muscle, in all likelihood lost some fat and your back will be twice as big as your waist anyway. Then we can start looking for those abs that you have been developing the whole time. Get rid of all the excuses, I don’t have time to eat six meals a day. I don’t have time to prepare meals. I like to party on the weekends too much. Squatting and dead lifts are too hard. I don’t have time to lay out a diet. I don’t have time to work on a routine. Well then I don’t have time for you. Stop wasting mine and I will stop wasting yours. |

Gender: | I'm always happy to see a Dr X post (The stickies are great!). Dude says it like it is and pulls no punches. Hey Dr X, are you the same fellow (Dr. X) writing for the bulknutrition e-mag? |

Gender: | I think it will continue because: -alot of people don't want to believe that this is hardwork -alot of people are too chickenshit to put themselves through the pain and gutwrenching training days -alot of people are dumb -EVERYONE wants the beach muscles and nothing else... which goes along with my last point because you need to build a supporting cast of muscle to support the big gains. to name a few... |

Gender: | As a newbie getting into the life of figure competition, I couldn't agree with your post more!!!! After getting the assistance with my workout regimen and nutrition regimen from some of the trainers at my gym who have competition experience, I can tell you...it's not easy at all. BUT...it's hard work worth doing if you want the results you say you want. I'm in my second week of training and okay....maybe I'm still on cloud nine, but week one was total CLEAN eating and it wasn't easy. I teach all day long and in order to eat six/seven times a day I have to eat in front of my students or drink my protein in front of my students (which as 7th graders they get a kick out of). Yes, it means taking your Sunday to prep your meals for the week and getting used to lugging a cooler around everywhere you go. But again, you have to ask yourself, "HOW BAD DO YOU WANT IT?" When I began my training on 1/15/07 I weighed in at 156.2 and granted I have a really awesome muscle build...I still need to lose fat. This is where I tell people what people who have been doing this for years have told me; If you don't clean up your eating it's all a waste of time! I stuck with my workout regimen and my eating for week one, hell...even had a cheat meal on Saturday afternoon and you know what, I lost 2.2 pounds of fat!!!! Funny....because my measurements grew...hmmm...could that be muscle???? (that's me being sarcastic) Anyways, great post and as a newbie myself I think more people just need to realize that eating isn't for pleasure; it's for fuel and that working out is a way of life; not a wham bam thank you ma'am instant gratification thing Funny short story; a friend of mine, she's in her thirties tells me that she wants to start really thinking about having a baby but wants to lose weight first because she's a bit overweight. So I plan out a clean nutrition plan for her and email it to her. Her response...."That's too boring". Do you really think she wants to lose weight THAT bad????? And yet ladies and mostly gentlemen....here's to another overweight woman having kids and becoming even more overweight.....Makes me feel bad for her husband....LOL Well that's my two cents..... |
