i had food posioning on sunday and i couldn't get out of the bed on sunday and monday, couldn't really eat much actually i basicaly ate nothing except fluids and meds. today is tuesday and i feel better i tried hitting the weights but i feel so damn weak. i struggled with my bench at 205 i could hardly do 5 reps. i normally would do 205 3x10... i had to bring it down to 185... can somebody tell me is this normal and if so when will i get my strength back? F*** i hate being sick also i went on the scale and it reads 165... im normally at 167 lightest and 170 heaviest.

I wouldn't worry to much man, a couple days of good eating and you should be back to normal....Keep your fluids up too!

TALO's Sig:"But when do you actually grow? Well, we don't grow in the gym. In the gym, we destroy. We tear down the body. We only grow when we are recovering. That's right, I said recovery. I see it all the time--people beating themselves up in the gym and not seeing results. They don't understand that hitting the weights hard is only a small part of growing or even cutting down. I could train the same all year round and get big or get ripped just by eating different and taking different supplements"

You had food poisoning....you didn't eat. The scale is down because your not eating much and your probably shitting or puking more than your eating. 2lbs is nothing...You still weak because 1)your on meds 2)you had food poisoning and didn't eat!

Nobody can tell you when you'll get your strength back, everyone's body deals with illness and such differently. Basically you'll get your strength back when you get it back.

Now is not the time to be hitting the weights either, you need to recover. Wait til you feel you've recovered fully or close to it and then try the weights. We're only talking a couple days anyway lol.

yeah man, take a few days and let your body recover. your immune system is working over time right now, and thats gonna consume alot of energy, then add to that micro trauma to your muscle cells and your body just isnt going to recover easily.

as for the wieght, I would venture you arent losing muscle just yet (atleast not a lot), what you lost will mostly be water, and maybe some glycogen, nothing to be concerned about. Just take it easy and all will be well by next week or so.

Yeah, listen to them. Don't be working out right now. Working out in itself comprimised the immuned system temporarily anyway. That's not a bad thing but in this case it's a good way to get a secondary infection. Take it easy. It won't be the last time you'll be layed off from working out. It'll be ok.
