| I loved Subway for a long time. I use to go five times a week or more. But recently I've realized the importance of cutting out non-100% whole wheat bread. Why in the world does Subway not offer whole wheat bread? The entire company thrives on its status as the 'healthy' fast food choice. But yet they are missing such an important part. I wondered how many people were upset about this so I did a google search on 'Whole Wheat Bread Subway'. I found on a few forums, such as Yahoo Answers people asking the question 'Is Subway's bread 100% Whole Wheat?' The answers that were given were 'Yes, if you order the Wheat, its 100% Whole Wheat'. Well, this is wrong. On that particular subject that question was closed, so I couldn't even inform anyone else reading that site, that is not the case. And so this is why I think Subway isn't offering a whole wheat bread. Why do they need to? Nobody seems to even realize its not whole wheat and Subway isn't informing its customers about how much better 100% whole wheat bread is. Their wheat, by the way, is easily their most popular bread. I can only assume this is because the average customer thinks they are choosing the healthiest bread this way, most likely assuming its whole wheat. I probablly seem a little overly sensitive about this, but I enjoyed eating subway up to 5 times a week. I've decided to cut out bread that is not 100% whole wheat which means no more Subway. And it seems like such a waste, because otherwise its a great option to get protein, vegetables and a starchy carb all in one easy, tasty package. |

Gender: | You are abslutely right. Wheat bread and "100% Whole Wheat Bread" are two different things. Matter of fact sometimes wheat bread is nothing much more than white bread with some caramel color. After all, white flour is still wheat flour most of the time. Another reason they may not bother with it is the sells. A 100% percent wheat bread is going to be a much less soft bread. I know a lot of people prefer a firmer bread for everything but I've a suspicion that people who like subways like the softer rolls. If you combine that with your theory that most people assume it's whole wheat, well..... But if you like the subs I don't why you need to cut them out entirely. A little bit of non whole grain bread is not going to kill you. Just maybe not 5 times a week. Unless it causes obvious problems for you I wouldn't completely deprive youself of something you like just cuz it fails to meet one criteria. |

| Rank: Member Experience: 1-2 Years | Thanks for the heads up on this. I often treat myself to a tuna sub on wheat and here I am thinking that it is a really healthy choice...now that I think about it, the tuna probably has a ton of mayo and other shit mixed in with it. :( |

Gender: | I used to work at a Subway back in highschool and yes, the bread is white flour bread with the caramel coloring as Eric has said. There are two reasons for this: first, it's cheaper than 100% whole wheat bread and second, most people don't research what the actual food being touted is. Still, I love the Subway double meat subs... yum! half the bread, twice the meat! WOOHOO! |

| I'm new to this forum. I didn't see the 'Edit Post' button.... But I made one mistake in my last post on the Tuna Nutrition Facts. It should be Calories: 1,060 Fat: 62.0g Protein:44.0g Carbs: 88.0g (I put the protein and carb ratio for the 6" sub) Some one teach me how to edit. ![]() |

| Oh one last thing. I asked my friend who worked at Subway what sub was the most popular at his location. The answer: "Easily Tuna on Wheat". I would guess its another thing people are ordering assuming they are making a healthy decision. And also on my nutrition facts for the tuna remember this is without cheese or sauce. Add cheese it becomes: Calories: 1,180 Fat: 72.0g Protein: 52.0g Carbs: 88.0g |
