| Don't worry about mercury poisoning. It is a scam by anti-fishing vegetarian wackos to try to scare people away from eating fish. http://www.fishscam.com/mercuryMyths.cfm There is also a differnce in different types of albacore: http://oregonstate.edu/dept/ncs/news...4/albacore.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albacore So don't buy into the hype about tuna being bad or the crap about not eating albacore! |

Gender: | Yeah, Troy, poultry is definitely cheap. Although most of the bb're types tend to buy chicken breasts instead of whole birds and that is a bit more expensive. It's beautiful how those BUSINESSES want us CONSUMERS to have freedom of choice, lol. Course we do which is why we shouldn't believer everything they say, or anyone else. Since they mention Duke University but conveniontly fail to cite actual studies all you have to do is look up Nicholas School (Duke University). They're the ones thay study the fish and stuff. You can then do a search for mercury and fish and see what theyACTUALLY have to say. I'm farily confident that the conclusions will be a bit different. Here's some to get started: http://www.nicholas.duke.edu/solutions/documents/miranda-02-23-05.pdf http://www.nicholas.duke.edu/notebook/mercury.pdf http://www.nicholas.duke.edu/wetland/mercury.htm http://www.nicholas.duke.edu/crossroads/maine.html http://www.nicholas.duke.edu/dukenvironment/f04/forum.html Just a few of MANY at Duke alone. The mercury problem is a real problem. This whole conspiracy theory of health is just getting childish and stupid. I hate to burst anyone's bubble, but here in the real world there are actual dangers to face. Most of the consensus in this thread is that the benefits outweight the risks but to be AWARE. That is actually what most advisories come down to. Some fish have more or less, etc. Nobody is saying "don't ever eat fish". The fact that these types of organizations blow out of proportion what the other side is saying in order to make their point doesn't help their credibility. Truth in reporting is where it is at. There is some evidence that mercury accumlation may come from natural sources rather than man-made but the large levels found in some fish is real. Especially longer lived predatory fish like shark, swordfish.... So what if historically there was high levels of mercury? I plan to live longer than people have "historically". Mr Mummy might have lived longer if he hadn't had all that mercury in him . Pesonally, I don't want to become a mummy. It's like if I said all these dangers about cigarretes is nothing but a conspiracy. You will not spontaneously combust if you smoke a cigarrete. You see where I am going with this? It is a favorite trick of politicians. You distort, exaggerate, or outright lie about what your opponent says in order to make your position sound more sensible. People who do that ALWAYS have an agenda that has nothing to do with protecting YOU. Last edited by EricT; 12-02-2007 at 02:27 PM. |
