Alcohol

Now i know its bad to drink full stop, and it has no nutritional values etc. However the majority of us enjoy a few beers now and again, and i am no exception. But i was wondering what is the best thing to drink if you are out on the lash (getting drunk!) calorie wise, i suppose what will have the least negative affectg on the body?

i would think shots are better than beers, but i could be totally wrong about that...i have also read that regular alcohol inhibits muscle growth, so i try to keep it to every other weekend and even then its 2 beers at most, unless things get crazy :)

I just shuddered when I read that alcohol may INHIBIT MUSCLE GROWTH!!! I just shuddered again while typing that! I'm glad I don't drink alcohol, or do any drugs. I can't see how I'd like to do something(s) that have killed so many. I respect those that do, so long as they respect my sober habits.

Alcohol is like the 4th macro that no one wants to think about.

As a general rule, the calories that come from alcohol sit somewhat between what carbs/protein and fats do.

Carbs and proteins run 4 cals per g. Fats run 9 cals per g. Alcohols generally run around 7 cals per gram.

One Budweiser (12oz) is about 150 cals. One shot of 80 proof Vodka is about 65 cals.

So, if you're looking to do the lower cal thing, go for a liquor (NOT something with a liqueur) with water or diet soda as a mixer.

BUT another thing to keep in mind (aside from how quickly those cals add up) is that the body tends to prioritize the processing of alcohol.

It's a poison. So naturally, your body is going to want to get rid of it as quickly as possible so that you don't die.

Therefore, any food you take in before your body's done ridding itself of the alcohol toxins, isn't going to be processed and absorbed like it should.

In other words, if you're going to drink, do it sparingly. And try not to eat a shit load of food while/after you've been drinking.

Interesting stuff with the food. Didn't realize that's how it worked.

BTW 80 proof vodka , Your badass !

I've tried 95 proof , Speratose(sp? Vodka from Poland. STRONG STUFF. There is a specific way to drink it or it will take your breath away and you will not be able to get it down.

80 proof is a typical vodka ;) That means it's 40% alcohol.

Try straight shots of everclear sometime. Don't drink near open flame! :jester:

I actually had some stuff from Bequia in the Caribbean a few years ago. A touch stronger than everclear (so damn near pure alcohol). They actually advertised it with the slogan of 'don't drink near open flame' complete with a cartoon of a little guy on fire, bottle in hand :biglaugh:

That was some rough alcohol right there!
