Getting enough protein?
I have a pretty strict diet Sunday-Thursday and usually slip pretty bad on Friday and Saturday. I was just wondering if I am getting enough protein on my Sunday-Thursday diet plan. Here is a sample of what I usually eat.
0630: 3 hardboiled eggs (minus the yolks), two bowls raisin bran, 1% milk 0930: whey protein shake 1100: two chicken breasts, cottage cheese, raw broccoli 1500: whey protein shake 1800: whey protein post workout 1900: two fish fillets with couscous I usually dont eat anything after 1900. I was eating some cottage cheese right before I went to bed to get in some late night slow absorbing protein in my system for while I slept, but I ran out and havent gotten around to buying anymore. So for a 220lb guy do you think I am getting enough protein? Is my diet out of whack? |
Do you know how much protein is in each of those meals ? If not you should find out.
Being 220lbs I would say you need around 250-300g of protein per day. I take it your trying to lose weight ? You still want to keep your calories up around 2200 ( + / - ) So if your not going to take in very many carbs, you might want to increase your protein more. |
You definately need to post up values. Telling us you had a protein shake could mean you put in one scoop for 20g, or 4-5scoops for 200grams. The same goes for the rest, such as are your chicken breasts and fish 4oz, 8, 12, etc...

The protein shakes all consist of one scoop of Optimum Whey Protein and I think it has something like 20grams of protein in it. As for the chicken breasts I have no idea because I just get them at the chow hall on base and dont know the nutritional facts behind them. I am at work right now so I cant check the fish, but its a store bought brand of frozen filets and Im pretty sure I can just check the box to see how much protein I get from them.

Don't know if your curious still or not huntor but those chow hall slabs are about 20 grams or so a piece

Thanks Johan for the info. I usually eat two of them at lunch during the work week and have some cottage cheese and maybe a baked potatoe. I think the chicken and cottage cheese combined is a good amount of protein for mid day. I also do a whey shake a few hours prior and a few hours after that meal.

I would up it, your definately not getting enough, and why throw away the yolks? There is protien in there too!

Hate the taste of them...

I HATE chow hall food. They took away my bas and i gotta eat their again now. Makes it tough to get a good meal. He is right about more calories though. I know your trying to lean up but maybe throw a tuna on wheat or something in your day to. Just a suggestion....around maybe 1330 or so.

Chow hall food is the worst and I have been surviving on it for the past 3.5 years. Can't wait to not have to eat there ever again!
