Trying to avoid all sugar in your typical American diet is like trying to avoid breathing :(
I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but two simple rules that seem to have not done me wrong are to avoid comercially fried foods (it is different if I pan fry some chicken in olive oil) and avoid HFCS.
Table sugar... well, I'm only human :) Besides, I'm not convinced that artificial sweeteners are any better for us than sugar. I'm not man enough to eat nothing but veggies and meat, so I have to take some calculated risks about my dietary intake.
