Exclamation Maltodextrin

Hey guys does anyone know how much Maltodextrin there is in BSN Truemass, i usually take a shake of true mass 1 hour before workout but i want to have 40g of maltodextrin and i dont know if to add more maltodextrin or there is sufficient enough maltodextrin in true mass shake.

Thanx jay

A full serving of that stuff contains 75 grams or carbohydrates. Most of which is malto and the rest is some kind of "polydextrose". 40 grams of dextrose is something around 35 grams carbs. So it sounds like there is plenty in the shake.

It's theoretically enough but it depends on whether taking this shake, which is pretty much a meal in itself and hour before or whether taking some fast carbs and protein directly before works best for you. I would experiment with both ways but if this is working for you then it sounds fine. I would encourage a post workout shake with fast protein and carbs though, which the TrueMass wouldn't work for.

Jazon for the protein shake post workout I'd prefer a whey isolate. For affordability and quality a cold filtered isolate (or other if you prefer) from True Protein or AlltheWhey's isolate. There are are numerous more expensive isolates also like Nature's Best Isopure, Syntrax Nectar, Subtance WPI.

Fast absorption is the key immediately post workout. Since any kind of whey supplement is faster absorbing than pretty much all other proteins an everyday whey mix such as from Optimum will work also. Just make the shake nice and dilute. But if you can afford an isolate go with that since this will give you the fastest absorption (and comfort, and taste).

Anuj, I really don't see the point of choosing between malto and dex since they are both so very cheap. However for the sake of argument I'd go with malto since dex by itself isn't really all that great in terms of apsorption and you can have bloating, etc. But malto by itself isn't optimal either.

BTW, according to my experience and what I've heard from a few others dex gets easier to tolerate after a while. I'm not sure if this is a real thing or that you just get used to it.

There are specific reasons to mix them allowing the combination to give faster absorption than either alone. However, any fast absorbing high GI carb is going to be better than nothing at all or a slow carb like oatmeal or something immediately post workout. I've already told you several times I think you should use them post workout .

Let me be clear in case you misunderstood what I said:

For POST workout oatmeal is not the best choice. So I hope you mean to use malto for post. The idea behind the instant oatmeal was when you were looking for ways to make shakes. Instant oatmeal can be blended into a shake very easily. That would be good for pre-workout about 45 minutes prior. But remember they put a TON of raw sugar in the pre-flavored instant oatmeal. See if you can find "plain" or at least reduced sugar. If you don't plan on using it for a shake it has no advantage over regular oatmeal really except for quickness but in a dorm room since you can use the microwave it's prob the best choice.
