Default Oatmeal

How many cups should i eat a day? is it good? why? i heard that if you eat too much you might get stomachaches as it is pure fiber, what do you say to that?
Well, i'll appreciate if you could answer this questions, thank you.

I eat a couple cups per day. One cup with breakfast and one cup with lunch if I wanna change from brown rice. I prefer the Irish oatmeal over regular oats, just what I grew up with.

Okay..

As a part of trying this out, I decided to go for oatmeal this morning. Usually when I have oatmeal I sufficate it with 2% milk and sugar. Obviously the sugar is not a good thing so I left it out and instead of pouring the milk in it like I usually would, I got a glass of it instead.

The oats tasted HORRIBLE. I ate three bites of it and came to the conclusion that even those it had a horrible taste I would still eat it because I know I'm doing a good thing. WRONG!.. That stuff made its way to the trash can a couple bites later.

Anyone got any advice on how to make this stuff taste half decent without making it completely BAD for me like I've grown up eating it? lol.

I cook mine with milk. That improves the taste a lot. Oats cooked in water are terrible for sure.

And I don't sweat a bit of sugar and butter either, lol.

But you can put it in a shake like Pity said. Instant oats will be your best bet for that. You can also get oat flour and use that for shakes.

You can also use oat flour to make other things like pancakes, etc...but you will need something with that which has gluten or they will not hold up. You can do half and half with wheat flour.

Also, if you want to use other grains for baking like this but they don't make a good product because of their gluten content you can get gluten powder all by itself to add in.

Obviously this is a assuming you OK with gluten.

Oatmeal is good for you. It is not "pure" fiber.

Everything in moderation though. You can have too much grain like anything else and it can cause some acid problems.

Just buy old fashioned oats. I believe you will find that much cheaper than buying oat flour. If you want an oat flour consistency, then you can use a food processor which effectively increases the glycemic index making it good for post-workout shake. I usually take half the can of oats and put it in a food processor and then store that in tupperware.

BTW, I cannot stand cooked oats. I add them to milk and sometimes also add dried fruit (cranberries, cherries, raisins) and walnuts.

Dude, you just said you buy your beef directly from the farmer and you quibble over oat flour

That was just a suggestion.

You can't get a flour consitency with a food processor so the idea behind the flour is it won't be as gritty thus more palatable. It takes a whole lot of reducing to get a flour and a blade alone is not cabable of that kind of size reduction.

The GI change is negligible and it really doesn't matter if a person has already had a pre-workout shake or a meal not to far back. It would hardly make a difference in the long term whether person had a bowl of oatmeal or a shake with oatmeal post-workout.

The reason Pity and I suggest a shake is if you don't like oatmeal regular.

Cost is less than grocery store on average... and that is without factoring in loss from excess fat in the grocery store variety. Of course, some people may not want to spend the extra money on filet mignon. ;)
