Peanut Butter Sandwiches
A few kids have asked me if I eat Peanut Butter and wheat sandwiches. They have never told me why you should eat them. Looking at the nutritional value of the penut butter it looks like it's high in fat, but the bread is full of carbs. I don't understand. Someone explain this to me.

The bread has good amount of protien and carbs the PB (natural) has protien and fat but not the really bad fat. The meal is good for breakfast-lunch I think.

There is really no reason why you should eat a PB Sandwich unless you are trying to gain weight and bulk up. People recommend natural peanut butter because it is loaded with calories and it is a source of GOOD fat compared to regular peanut butter which is mainly hydrogenated oils. So people that are trying to bump their cals find it easy to get alot of calories in the form of a good fat while at the same time getting a little bit of protein. When I was trying to up my cals and get some additional fat in my diet I turned to a scoop of natural peanut butter in my late night shake (delicious btw).
In general, this meal is just a bad idea if your not bulking because you are combining fats and carbs. You really want to have meals which have protein+carbs or protein+fat for a general muscle building diet. |
I have reduced fat peanut butter, is that fine if I'm trying to lose weight?
|
Honestly, if you are trying to lose weight you shouldn't be eating peanut butter. And the reduced fat peanut butter really isn't any better than regular peanut butter because they usually contain the same calories. For example, I looked up JIF reduced fat peanut butter and it had 190 calories in a serving, the same as the original creamy brand. All brands of regular peanut butter contain hydrogenated oils, which are simply bad for you. Natural peanut butter simply contains peanuts and salt without all the other fillers.
Its all about the calories in the end if you are trying to lose weight. |
the thing with reduced fat foods in general is if your taking out fats, then they are being replaced with carbs. Its really counter productive.
I agree with sleazy having a high fat high carb meal is not condusive to losing fat. However, depending on your diet using natty pnb while cutting isnt always bad. |
PB sammiches are best used for gaining. for hardgainers who just cannot seem to get enough calories down. PB is a very calorie dense food and as sleazy said, if you use the natty stuff you are getting healthy fats. its a great, calorie dense food to help you gain when stomach is always at capacity.
if you are trying to lose, or put on fat easily then it probably be wise to avoid PB sandwhiches |
I use as a cheat meal. I mean in sandwich form.
Love my PB |
excellent for weight gaining purposes, but if your goals are weight loss i wouldnt touch peanut butter

a peanut butter on whole wheat sandwich is great before a cardio workout...i have one about 45-60min before i go to ju jitsu/cardio kickboxing. i find that the more protein i eat, the fuller i am throughout the day...i wouldn't be too concerned about the fat that's in the peanut butter -as long as your not sitting on you ass eatting it right out of the jar...be sensible about the amount you put on there...try it
