Nope - what you need is complex carbs about 1 hour before your workout. Tyr oatmeal or a banana with 2 glasses of water. 15 mins before your workout have a small ammount of whey as well this stops the body from breaking down its own protein.

I thought you were thinking about replacing them with fast!
I would say slow over fast because you dont want to spike your insulin levels untill after your workout with your post workout shake. This basically opens up your muscles to flood them with carbs and amino acids anc creatine. Slow carbs give you a steady flow of energy for your body to work with and you will be using muscle glycogen for fuel. One thing to try is a caffine suplement! before a workout. I dont know how long your in the gym for but im usuallyin for 1.5 hours. i have a high complex carb meal at 4pm and then a flapjack at 5pm with about 1 litre of water. i hit the gym at 6:30 and im always pumped with energy!

Simply put yes. I believe lyle M. suggests 15g of protien and roughly 30g of high gi carbs about 15-20min before your workout. It will also do you good to sip on a High gi carb drink while working out (like gatorade, virtago ect).

Yeah. This is all a matter of opinion and what works and is convenient for the individual. I use high gi carbs before a workout. As long as you don't wait more than 15 minutes or so before hitting it you won't have a sugar crash and even if you start to your blood sugar will should balance itself out fairly quickly once you start lifting.

Slow carbs an hour before are great too. For pre workout my advice is to do whatever WORKS for your body, your schedule, and gives you the best performance in the gym. Second guessing and nitpicking things like insulin spikes before your workout is secondary to all that. If you start getting really fat or something that may be a better criteria

If you act sanctimonious I will just list out your logical fallacies until you get pissed off and spew blasphemous remarks.
