Testosterone Supplements

Lately i have been getting magazines from GNC and vitamin world after i buy my aminos every week..

I see tons and tons of ads for Testosterone suppliments and test boosters. I don't deny that testosterone is a major player in muscle growth but I question the validity of these pills...

Any input? I know that my natural testosterone levels may benefit from a boost but I am not sure if these pills are worth a dime, let alone 40 bucks for 90 pills.

If they are good, whats a good brand to try out?

thanks!

I've looked at stuff like that before as well. My guess is maybe some of them actually work, but I am not sure.

Of course there are things like the bread and butter exercises like squats, deadlifts, bench presses and such that help you produce more testosterone. Be sure to train your legs equally as hard as your upper body.

Increasing your EFA consumption can help your testosterone levels as well. These are your Essential Fatty Acids that come from peanuts, avacadoes, fish and ehalthy oils like flax seed, olive and canola.

Here's something I didn't know, that I'm just now reading. Apparently soy raises estrogen levels in your body, which directly has a negative effect on testosterone. So, looks like you need to limit soy intake.

Limiting your alcohol consumption helps. Moderation.

Here is another thing I didn't know. Vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, radishes, turnips, cabbage, and brussel sprouts apparently reduce estrogen levels, which raises testosterone. So, eat more of those.

And get sufficient rest.

Yeah, I have used several "natural" test-boosters and thew were:
-T-Bomb
-Novedex
-Viraloid

Viraloid is made by Vyotech Nutritionals. I used it for 30 days and it worked. For the nest effects, change your work out completely, start the new one with Viraloid and you'll make respectable gains.

It was a good supplement!!

Not to be negative guys but save your money. There's nothing GNC or anyone else can sell you that will make an appreciable difference in your test levels. If any of their sups do anything then show me a study or actual university supervised neutral test that proves it. Without that you're just taking their word for it and that's all they ever offer is their word.

Likewise, there's no vegetable or exercise that will raise test levels enough to make any difference. Absent a true steroid your body maintains it's own levels.

Check the ingredients or tell me what's in them and run a search to see if their claims have ever been substantiated by anything other than some bodybuilder claiming that they do.

You're wise to question the efficacy of these snake oil products Phreaknite. They're a marketing scheme to take your money. Here's why:

Here's a good example to use:

Viraloid is one of the substances mentioned. Notice the name? It's no mistake that the "vira" part sounds like "virility." and "oid" of course sounds like "steroid."

The advertising write-up on it (http://www.supplements101.com/Viralo...yoviraloid.htm) states that "Viraloid is unique in that it actually increases in effectiveness the longer you take it." Now there's not a substance in the world that increases in effectiveness the longer you take it. Come on guys everyone knows that with every drug you take the body develops a tolerance for it requiring more and more of it. Does receptor downloading ring a bell?? Why then does this stuff keep gaining in strength the more you take? Could it be that the more you take, the more you buy and the richer the product company gets?? Can everyone see this?

Oh yeah, I almost forgot this advertising quote, "using Viraloid as a year round foundation." I bet that makes the stock holders smile! Use it all year round guys, it only keeps getting stronger.!! Of course they also state that it makes test levels "skyrocket" but doesn't "shut you down." If that's the case it's the only substance known to man that doesn't. It's the perfect supplement!

More B.S.- "increasing androgen receptor sensitivity", "Opens testosterone receptor sites", and of course, "There are no negative side effects associated with the use of Viraloid." and safe for women too! Boy they don't miss anyone. Once again no substance known can do those things.

And of course no science is offered, no studies to back any of these claims. The only explanation offered is, "Viraloid is a potent blend of steroidal alkaloids called “diosegins” derived from high sterol-containing plants. Let's break that down shall we? Well the strict definition of steroid is simply a large group of fat-soluble organic compounds. An alkaloid is any of a large class of naturally occurring, complex organic compounds that contain nitrogen and are common in plants. A diosegin is a steroid (fat soluble organic compound), and sapogenin (any of a class of organic compounds occurring in many species of plants as derivatives of the steroid) is found in wild yams.

Of course none of that means anything and has absolutely nothing to do with explaining why this product does what they say it does. You can get the same effect eating sweet potatoes!

In short, unless you choose to go with real Anabolic-Androgenic Steroids than save your money. Eat plenty of good food, take a good multi-vitamin, work out hard and rest well. You'll get just as big, just as quick and have a lot more money left in your pocket.

Nice post Iron

Iron 03-14-2007 10:54 AM

Thanks bro.

With respect iron, you are making big claims yourself. You are saying no food, supplement, or exercise will raise testosterone levels.

Now, I can't really say I have scientific backing on what I posted. I never measured my test levels after heavy squats or after eating broccoli. I just posted it from what I hoped was a good source.

Now, I'm not saying all supplements and stuff work like they are marketed, but everything in GNC isn't snake oil. For example, we are pretty sure Creatine works.

Sounds like we both need to provide evidence.

Thanks for the reply Troy. I admire a questioner. That's what I wish everyone would do.

What I meant is nothing of that nature will raise the test levels significantly and keep them there. They may surge minimally but they return to normal quickly. The body simply backs off till the levels are back to normal. It's not enough to do much good. That's why roids work, you over-ride the bodies ability to lower the levels.

That's my point. I think you want to believe it works. When you say you can't back it up with science then tell me, why do you spend good money on them??

I've been there. When I started I took everything available. I've learned how marketing works now and I never take someone's word when they're trying to sell me something.

Quote: Now, I'm not saying all supplements and stuff work like they are marketed, but everything in GNC isn't snake oil. For example, we are pretty sure Creatine works.

I think I refuted the things in my post pretty well. Not me I mean but I exposed the lies. All I did was research some of their statements.

If you can't say that they work Troy, why buy them? Why take up for someone that's taking your money and offer no proof?

QUOTE: Sounds like we both need to provide evidence.

I think I provided evidence with my post at least with that particular substance. Please don't be mad with me, can you say that anything I said is wrong? Please correct me if I misstated anything. What more evidence do you need? I broke the claims down one at a time and refuted each one correctly I believe. Where was I wrong?

If you have another substance you're wondering about, I'll be happy to check on it. Again, these things are not my opinion, opinions are worthless. Go to PubMed.com or Medline.com. They study these things scientifically and report what happens. Again no opinions just what happens.

I hope I've come across respectably to you as you did to me. If not I apologize. But You're not really sure about any of these products are you? If you are, why are you? So why defend them?

I ordered a supplement called Fuze on bodybuilding.com to be honest I couldn't tell a difference.

hrdgain81 03-19-2007 10:29 AM

Fuze is good stuff Eddie, what was your dossage?

You also have to remember with supps like Fuze, and many "test boosters", regardless of what the label says, they do not raise test levels. Fuze is a tribulus product, so it is an LH (luetenizing hormone) booster. this in no way correlates to a raise in test levels, but it does mean there is strong possiblity that it will increase libido. When I use Fuze, all it takes is a day or so at 3-4 caps ... then I catch wood randomly and for seemingly no reason.

I've used it prob around 3-4 times and never saw coresponding lbm gains, but it is great post cycle.

Eddie0206 03-19-2007 12:59 PM

I would generally take 3 in the morning before breakast then 2 at night on an empty stomache

hrdgain81 03-20-2007 06:13 AM

Well I guess everyone is different, or maybe you have a high tolerance.

Eddie0206 03-20-2007 07:46 AM

I am also a teenager, I am willing to bet the natural test is pretty high

hrdgain81 03-20-2007 07:57 AM

Good point, i didnt realize your age.

christianrob 02-23-2009 07:30 AM
