Good Genes??

How can you tell if you have the infamous 'good genes' (other than being really responsive to weight training)? My friend, who is a BBer, said I seem to have good genes, judging by the my body frame/naturally broad/wide torso. Are visual clues like this a good indication?

Yep. I see lots of guys that look like they work out that don't. It pisses me off. You and your good genes piss me off. :)

yeah...agreed. everybody in my family is like 5 foot tall...and very light weight.

Ross, if it makes you feel any better, I have naturally scrawny upper arms (in relation to my upper body) :biglaugh: I don't really look like I work out, aside from my traps, and upper torso. I once was really fat. I am at about an average 'guy who eats well and doesn't workout' fat level.

i honestly dont even know how to tell. maybe i have good genes but im only 5'7.

the things is. there has been times wheni have went really long periods without being in the gym. and i mean long periods like years. and i can just throw on a lot of weight ans till work with it. my endurance will be hit significantly. i remember once when i was 18 i didnt lift for a whole year and hopeed right under the bench and did 315 5 times. i think i did more but i dont want to lie. and hoped right on a trap bar and dead lifted over 600. even though it was with a trap bar i dont think thats bad for being out of the gym over a year and never really doing them.

so i think there are different kinds of good genes. some make people look good. some people can have a better body fasters, so people can stay striong. some people dont get injured easily. i rememeber when i can damn near jump off a roof and be aight. now little stupid shit happens for no reason. this shit sucks

Good point, M! Different traits. I've never really thought about it that way, aside from the actual, set body types (ecto, endo, etc) I've done some deads on the trap machine, too, fun stuff!!

Do you mean a hex bar, monsta? That's cool either way. I always forget that I've been blessed with a pretty decent metabolism, so I've always been pretty lean. I guess everybody has at least one good attribute. That's a great attitude, monsta.

MONSTAFACE 07-05-2008 12:45 PM

yeah i think thats what it is. i always called it a trap bar. its like square or something like that but your grip is from the sides instead of in the front and you still use olympic plates

and yeah i look at it that way because everyone has something different. you can even look at runners. some people excel at running fast. some people cant run fast at all but they can run for 3 hours straight. everybody has something different that they excel in. i think everyone just needs to find it. work on it to bring it out and in the mean time work just as hard on everything else.

like i said. with big hiatuses in lifting and at a young aga i can get on just abotu anything and throw on weight that some people work their whole lifes to lift and never can. but on the other hand there are people who were able to dunk a basketball at like 14 years old and unless i drop like 80 pounds i probably will never be able to do that
