Gender: | I got a question to ask ya'll. I was wondering if I can call myself a powerlifter. I use powerlifting principles and well, I'm just wondering what I would have to do to be able to truly give myself the title of being a "Powerlifter". Feel free to comment. The reason I am asking this is because my teacher in class today was asking who was in sports and the people around me were naming off football, cheerleader, waterpolo?, and just stuff like that and I was sitting there and I was thinking that what I did was more of a sport than what some of them were doing. But yeah feel free to comment ok. |

Gender: | If you train using powerlifting principles and routines then of course you can call yourself a powerlifter, as long as you are serious about what your doing. Just like any other sport someone can say they are a baseball player or so forth but that has no reflection on how good they are, they could be the worst player ever but they still are a baseball player because thats what they do. Moral of the story...call yourself whatever you want ![]() |

Gender: | It occurs to me that powerlifting is NOT a training method at all. It's a competition involving the three lifts. How you prepare for that competition is completely up to you. The point being you do not have to train in any particular way to call yourself a powerlifter, it's just smarter to train that way after a certain point of strength development. So yeah, call yourself what you want. But powerlifting is what you do not how you train, IMO. I just wouldn't want an absolute beginner to lifting to think they need to go right to what actually are advanced tecniques and end up hurting themselves by tearing a tendon, ligament, or what have you.
