| Moderator Rank: Light Heavyweight Experience: 7-10 Years | Does anyone want to post in the carver's webspace? I'm referring to the Carver from Nip/Tuck if anyone here watches it. He's the killer/rapist who carves people's faces. "Beauty is a curse on the world" man.... The Carver! |

Gender: | <clutching head> Jesus H...I knew I was outta touch since I stopped watching the idiot box years ago... But you gotta be kidding me! This is a syndicated TV show? This asshole fictional character who is a rapist and serial killer that mutilates his victims... is idolized on myspace?? The virtual world just stepped down about 10 notches in my estimation. |

Gender: | It all comes down to a numbers game. Once upon a time you'd have to a majority of viewers whatching your show to have a hit. Nowadays, with the number of shows out there, you can have a hit show with (and I'm not positive on the numbers) something like 1 to 2%. Maybe even less. So if you figure there has always been sickos out there who would be into this kind of stuff, the only difference is now they're a targeted audience. The percentage of sickos hasn't necessarily changed (hopefully) so it doesn't have to reflect that badly on the state of society in general. At least it makes me feel better to think of it that way |

According to my fav unit at the FBI in Quantico, there are more than 100 active serial killers in the US -known. There are at least that many - unknown, although the internet is making it possible to log in more and more cases of unsolved murders that help link victims to known and potential (new) perps. Thats why I have several feebs and and state investigators on myspace friends list. Just in case they need a bit of the old moly boly (insider term, molec bio) help beyond their clever lab folks capacity...they always know they have a little extra help tucked away on the side. Serendipity works both ways in a well-connected network. |

Trouble, please don't take everything I say as a challenge to your expertise. I don't pretend to know anything about serial killers. Likewise, I don't think everyone that watches Nip/Tuck is a serial killer, do you? I'm sure you don't. Or everyone who may post on that site. I shouldn't have even used the word "sickos". Some people are engaged, fascinated, or entertained by things that are just sickening to many of us. Heck, I don't know why people like movies and shows about mobsters, but they are way popular. Look at "The Sopranos", not to mention the Godfather "saga". | |

Gender: | Think about it Eric. We have unfettered mobility, a population apathetic and unconnected to its neighbors and community with many of us are isolated from knowing each other as a functional unit, a mental care system that was gutted for cost savings decades ago, and everywhere, we see dysfunctional fragmented families, latch-key kids, chronic stress and yes, a thin veneer of control within ourselves, our cities, where road rage, boiling anger, and anarchy wait to be unleashed by happenstance. Worst, by far, the pathetic condition of our population - overfed, overstimulated, cemented by malaise into obesity, depression, anxiety...mental imbalance. There is the recipe for slipping free of thin moral bounds of psychological and sociological conditioning "controls" that separate us from amoral action and logic. You know what? The worst part of this type of show is that it gives idle, unbalanced minds....ideas. That was the reason for my outrage and fear at seeing this type of show being praised and lauded. We bored, jaded masses are adrenaline junkies on one side of the coin, and easy fodder for the dark actions of perverts on the other (side). Last edited by trouble; 12-09-2005 at 10:14 AM. |
