The Death Penalty

In the UK we dont have the death penalty, two years ago a law was passed which ment the death penalty could never again be used in Britain. Many people believe this to be a bad thing however the majority think its right to abolish it forever.

I know that in the US some states still carry out state executions. Is there many people in the US (or anyother countries) that still agree with murdering people in the name of justice? Im sure Canada dont have it.

I belive in it. some people do not deserve to live

TALO 12-09-2008 04:55 PM

Like you said we don't have it in Canada , but sometimes I wish we did.

My sentiments exactly.

We have it in India. It's very rare to actually have a death penalty though....I dunno, India is a weird country. We never really hear about rapists or child molesters because they either get killed in jail by organized crime lords or they get stoned (stoning takes place in secluded undeveloped villages). So it is really rare to actually see a serial killer or rapist in the newspapers....because predominantly the death penalty is meant for them.

On, the whole, I agree with the death penalty. But I think it should be reserved for rapists, child molesters and serial killers. And those who do heinous crimes like eating their loved ones, etc. The sickos and perverts can have the penalty.

I agree with the death penalty, but like Wolf mentioned I feel it should be reserved for heinous crimes like murder, child molestation and so forth.

Some people, hate to say it, do not need to be breathing the same air as the rest of us.

Like TALO said, we don't have it in Canada. But Joker summed up my thoughts on it.

I don't believe in the death penalty. Everybody deserves to live. But I do believe in torture. :biglaugh: That will teach those B!+che$

So it appears the consensus is that the death penalty is for those that commit, as Wolf so eloquently puts it, the most heinous of crimes.

Why? Is it punishment ? Is it revenge? Is it to gratify the hungry masses? And in all those years of executing these people, has it deterred others?

Ross86 12-10-2008 04:24 PM

The official reason is as a deterrent, but in actuality it's more of a punishment.
