Default When/how did it start for you?

How did you guys get started in BB? I first got 'started' lifting weights in my Sophomore year of HS, about 5 yrs ago. Of course, @ that time, I worked out whatever body parts, using a lot of iso. ex's, crappy nutrition, etc. But, I got inspired by seeing Markus Ruhl in an edition of Muscular Development, the one w/ Brandy Dahl on the cover. Anyway, what about y'all?

I first lifted weights in H.S. as well, although it was definately iso ex's, and only lat pulldowns, calf raises, military press, and tricep pushdowns, lol. I did, however, stretch like mad before working out, which is something i need to do again!

I then worked in an environment very much involved in bodybuilding and nutrition. I admit my esteem is not great when it comes to my body, and I love the feeling of progress and controlling an aspect of my life (getting up @ 4.30am for the gym, and eating healthy).

Stretching before lifts isn't such a good idea. Check out the stretching sticky for more info.

I got started after sophomore year wrestling (my first year). The captain took me and another kid to the gym. We did, like, bench press, incline bench, and curls, or something. No lower body whatsoever, but we spent a lot of time on curls. After junior year I joined here and started learning all of the many things I was doing wrong. I started SS and jumped up like 20lbs within a month - obviously not all muscle but the beginner gains were enough to get me hooked. At least partially I owe this site a huge thanks for helping me get to a state title, actually.

Pretty much right after high school. I was pissed at how small I was (6 ft 150lbs) and was determined to do something about it.

I just thought of that.....WOW! Man, congrats, on your success! I bet it's been a long, hard road, but a trip well-worth taking, huh? I hope to be that big one day! I am that heavy, but I would like to replace adipose tissue w/muscle!!

It has taken me a long time but the results were definitely worth it. I graduated high school in 1993 (dating myself I know) and was a skinny little shit. I was very irritated about it and decided to do something.

Heavy compounds and a ton of food (mostly clean....and beer ) have done wonders for me.

Good luck to all of you with similar goals and thanks for the shout outs!!

^^^wish i can say i made that type of progress since high school thats a hell of a jump. great work!!!!!!

i think i am just a taste stronger in certain lifts form high school. i can bench and shoulder press a little more than what i did, but when i graduated i was stronger as a whole.

when i got to high school i was 240. i graduated at 270. i think i was nfl ready strength wise back back then . so all in all my goal wasnt to get bigger cause i have always been big. i just wanted to lift heavy weight for a lot of reps. it wasnt impressive to lift 225. it was impressive to lift 225, 25 times.oh and be able to chase somebody and they think they are smoking me to turn around and notice that i am just a step away from ripping their shoulder off their body

MONSTAFACE's Sig:OH SHIT!!!! ITS THE COPS!!!!

yes......i just type and press enter, i dont proofread i did enough of that in college. you know what i meant when i typed it anyway

Haha, yeah, Monsta, that is another motivator! It's funny how people assume that muscular people (guys and gals) are slow, since they are buff. But, they don't know that some of the best speed athletes have had some huge glutes for explosive start-line speed!
