I think everyone needs to always be working on it. I always have something I won't to improve on and squatting is not really a big thing for me (as far as a "focus").

I don't know anything about that sticking the toes up idea. My only thing is it looks a bit dangerous what you are doing right now!

I figured it was westside you got that arch thing from. I completely disagree with that idea. In every day walking around you are really going for a "neutral" pelvic position. That is what puts the musculature in the most advantageous balance. You don't want the pelvis tilted too forward or backwards but "just right". A good arch is a good arch and quite frankly one size fits all advice can be a little haphazard.

If you had someone who didn't have a good tight arch you might tell them to exaggerate it to stress the point and get them where you want them but that would be on an individual basis. So from what I can see all that stuff at the beginning is making you look a bit unstable and all the pre-stretching is probably just helping to force your back out of set. Nothing good in that and as you say it don't feel good.

I have a list of the basic stretches that will serve people on average. Some people can be different and need different stretches. Also, though, there may be muscles where you need to increase ROM but others where you just need to maintain ROM or stretch to assist in recovery, etc. You don't need to be able to drop down into a side split to squat, lol.

Performance Day today

Had a pretty good session all up.I equaled last weeks effort on squats,I did a 3rd but completely lost the rep, it was a real stinker so Im not counting it.Bench was Fucking awesome I felt very strong today and added weight to try for a single. The 1st rep ended up flying off my chest so I did a 2nd, I was very pleased.Hit a weight PR on chins too but only managed 4 reps.

Performance Day 30/11/07
Squat 1x2 107.5kg
Bench 1x2 85kg (PR)
Chin 1x4 BW+18.5kg (PR)

I tried my best on squats to stay tight, and I prestretched my calves as you said Eric,my only problem was I found myself concentrating so hard on my back during squats I forgot to keep the toes from poppin up!! must be my short attention span! I will keep working and stretching. Its funny I did some light box squats below parallel and had no probs with the back at all, I also liked the fact that I could pause and get tighter on the box before I drove up, my arch on the way up was definately better off the box.Might have to seriously consider some box work if the squat stalls due to form issues.

Hey folks

Felt crap before todays workout.Really tired despite good sleep all weekend.Ended up having a great workout tho!! Nailed 5x5 on squats and just missed the last rep on bench cos my leg and hip cramped and I came loose DAMMIT! Hit my chin reps, Just, Ive already got some ideas on how to move chins if they stall out, they are definately tough tacked on at the end of Squats and Benches.

Stress Day 3/12/07
Squat 5x5 95kg
Bench 4x5,4,2 74.5kg
Chin 3x5 BW+12.5kg (hard slow bar speed)

Overall very happy, squats felt great, I stretched for about 40 mins on sunday after cardio and really practiced getting into the correct bottom position,I think my hips and groin are whats tight, Ill work hard on that.

Squat 2x5 70kg
Press 5x5 41kg (Volume PR)
Deadlift 1x4 130kg

Good work

Haha, I have had those leg/hip cramps during bench before. It's the worst feeling ever! I'm sure you're enjoying being sore. I love that feeling of muscle soreness when I am not starting a routine. I suppose it's verification that you're hitting the muscles you're aiming for.

Keep it up

hey Hops!!!
great to see you still plugging away and making steady progress!

personally i have found that the press suffers most when i dont get enough sleep or maybe missed a meal or two over the weekend. shoulder strength seems to be the first and quickest to go, is it that way with you too? just curious.

and hell yeah, chins are brutal after squats and benches, especially the weighted variety! and you're hanging almost 30 extra lbs on yourself so that's awesome!
remember when we could barely get 3 sets of 5 with our B/W?

btw, how's the b/w and measurements going?

be well mate

Hey Riddick

Press doesnt seem to drop off due to lack of sleep or missed meals it just seems to move real slowly all the time!!, oh well take the good with the bad I guess.

Yeah Im remember when 3x5 on BW chins was soooo hard, just goes to show patience is key.

As far as measurements here they are
Bodyweight 88kgs
Arms between 15 3/4 and 16" (not much change)
Chest Flexed 46 1/4" and 44 1/2" relaxed
Thighs I think are 24 or 24 1/2"

Measurements have not changed alot for a few months,I was basically on maintenence or below cals for a long time, and trying to go for strength gains, but are now on the way up again due to upping the cals a bit.Might have to start some arm work cos they have lost a bit!! You know I love my beach muscles and I really want 17's

How you been mate?

Gday folks

Great sesh today,Hit a nice PR on squats, feeling good on them too,and also hit a nice PR on bench.Chins sucked hard, I lost a rep from last week oh well Ill see how things go, I did a quick 5x3 with bodyweight after chins to add a bit of workload, I tried to pull up as quick as I could, felt good as bar speed on Monday was slow also.

Performance Day 7/11/07
Squat 1x2 110kg (PR)
Bench 1x2 87.5kg (PR)
Chin 1x3 BW+18.75kg (-1 rep)

Great workout.

Hi guys

Stress day today had fantastic day, squats were tidy but hard, bench was great.I am pushing my time between sets out to about 4 or 5 mins at the moment and its working well.Chins sucked I missed a rep on the last 2 sets.Might move to a slightly diff loading pattern to see if i can spur on some more progress, thoughts any one?

10/12/07
Squat 4x5,4,1 96kg
Bench 5x5 75kg
Chin 1x5,4,4,2 BW+13kg

Great day despite missing a rep on squats, I will move my stance in a tad on wed to see if it lets me get a bit deeper.I suspect I might be a bit wide.

I doubt that moving your stance in will help you get that extra rep, although it might. It will probably have an opposite effect.
