I would suggest telling him to visit this site, there is nothing worse then some one who doesnt know shit about lifting giving advice to kids.

yea, many of the freshmen have neve lifted before in there lives, i talked to him and he said that it would be a good idea for lineman and "heavy skill" players to lift after the full team is done. i guess its supposed to be cardio and lifting at the same time. anything to not run. lol. todays mini lift.

bench: 4x6 at 185

dumbell bench: 2x10 with 70's (you guys think i should do more weight here?)

i was supposed to teach some freshmen girls that are playing softball how to bench, but they were late so i made them watch/spot me. it was fun

It doesn't matter what I think, it matters what you can do. If you can lift more, then lift more.

Barbell Bench and Dumbbell Bench are not the same animal. Dumbbell relies on alot of muscle for stability, so typically you do less weight than barbell. My main point was that its impossible to say whether you should be lifting more or less. You lift what you can lift, someone saying that you should be able to do 100's on dumbbell bench won't make you able to do it.

Just to be the devil's advocate, what would you do if I said you should be able to lift 100s and not 70s? How would me saying that you should be able to lift heavier impact your training, progression and growth? (Hint: the answer is....nothing....to both questions lol)

Was this a circuit like the other?

Man your coach really doesn't know what he is doing! This whole section is especially silly. First of all, I am no expert on olympic derivatives but doing doing them is a circuit with higher reps doesn't sound all that good to me. Putting upright rows before overhead press is dumb. Upright rows such alltogether, IMO, but mixing that all together in the way it is in a circut with little rest and which promotes an environment where people get excited and tend to do more than they should could end up with some shoulder injuries. The whole thing is tending toward quantity over quality.
