and put it this way when i was starting that riptoes program and i started everything light. after i squatted i had to knock off 100 pounds on the bench to finish the 5x5. so if i can knock of more than 100 pounds you can knock off 30 and be aight

sorry guys haven't been on these boards in a while. I skipped two workouts because I purchased Starting Strength 2nd Edition, Practical Programming, Gourmet Nutrition, From Scrawny to Brawny, and Build Muscle Lose Fat Look Great. I was compelled to read them all before I continued down my path of "2 years no gains, good diet and strict form!"

It's funny because these guys in the books had my same problem, they ate WELL, worked out decently and not overtrained, yet never grew...

Until...

well I haven't got to that part yet, but I will find out hahaha!

Ok so,

6-14-08 B

Squat 160
PRess 65
Row 100
Barbell Curls 65
tried a pullup, couldn't even do 1 from starting position. I can do them if I jump up a little bit..

6-17-08 A

Squat 165
Bench 100
Deadlift 230
was too tired to do any accessory work.

Looks like everything is coming along nicely. Good work.

As for the pull-ups... do you have a pull up assist machine? If you do that would be perfect, just slowly reduce assist each workout as until you can complete your sets with bodyweight. Otherwise, the jump will work or a band could help.

I can do pullups now from starting position now WOO!! only thing is I can do like 4 before they become "nose-ups" then "forehead-ups"

oh and bleh. haven't worked out since my last post, reason being is I got super sick. I couldn't get out of bed for like 3 days lol and everything I ate I threw up. even light food like yogurt.

so as you probably can guess I'm now skinnier than ever...

aww well, tomorrow I'm hittin the gym hard right where I left off, and that downtime gave me plenty of time to read up.

Don't be surprised if you have to lighten the weights. Being sick really takes a toll on the body but it will come back quick.

I would say just keep workin at your bw pull ups until you can do a 3x5 or something then start adding weight if you want.

check this out, first paragraph in Beyond Brawn..

Is your training working?
Do you really have some progress in muscle and might to show
for your efforts over the last few months? If not, your training
is not working and it is time to make major changes—time to
put into practice the advice given in this book.
