LOL, I wasn't suggesting he not listen to you, Anuj. It's only that cycling it back is the simplest thing to do and it will work at least once. That doesn't mean that after you do that you can't get going once you hit a wall again. You may be able to cycle back again (probably) or you may have to use some other tricks, like yours. But if you reach too far into the bag of tricks right off the bat, then the simpler tricks at the top won't work the next time which will stall out you overall progress sooner.

But yeah, that's in the future. DOMS at this point is just soreness and when you actually are hitting the wall you're just as likely to have less soreness.

If you act sanctimonious I will just list out your logical fallacies until you get pissed off and spew blasphemous remarks.

no no no eric...i didnt mean it like that. i actually meant what i wrote...i had no idea u were keeping an eye on him....and i know this isnt a competition about listening to u versus listening to me....

don misunderstand me bro....i know what ur saying and ur right...im not going to sit and paraphrase what u wrote but i agree with the slow progression of tricks to maintain progress.

Rabbit seems to have everything well in hand so I wasn't really keeping an "eye" on him . Just stopping in and making comments.

I actually would like to thank both you and Sentinel for keeping an eye on my journal - and the advice you have both given. Part of the reason I'm so psyched to go to the gym is posting here when I get back. It really does help knowing people are reading.

To be honest, I wasn't sure that I'd be willing to keep up a journal, but the thought of not logging a work out has already saved me from missing a workout twice!

OOPS. Let me rephrase. I've been keeping up with your journal but thinking you were running it perfectly at this point.

Top 5 things I like about Rippetoe's SS so far...

5) It is brief but intense
4) All the squatting seems to burn a ton of calories
3) It provides clear goals every time I step into the gym
2) It makes me do squats. I guarantee I'd be lord of the leg press machine if I were left on my own to rationalize my way out of it!
1) As a life-time sufferer of the dreaded "caucasian no-ass syndrome", I am for the first time in my life developing an ass.

aah....u don say thanks to friends bro

as to the motivation, ill tell u 2 things:

1.) i used to be in the same shoes when i got here. i have to say: eric has been my guide through my journey from day 1 but i also want to add to that that this board rocks. give it some time. ur journal hasnt been visited by 0311, hrdgain, dave, kane, etc but sooner or later they'll drop by (hopefully) and ull feel more at home.

2.) if u want something REALLY motivating to do u should do what i do. i maintain a workout log (paper) and i have written this quote down on the first page which not only psych's me up before a lift but also makes me NOT slack off. here is the quote:

"All men and women are born, live suffer and die; what distinguishes us one from another is our dreams, whether they be dreams about worldly or unworldly things, and what we do to make them come about... We do not choose to be born. We do not choose our parents. We do not choose our historical epoch, the country of our birth, or the immediate circumstances of our upbringing. We do not, most of us, choose to die; nor do we choose the time and conditions of our death. But within this realm of choicelessness, we choose how we live." - Joseph Epstein

best of luck dude

Missed saturday's workout due to illness. Still feel like crudcakes but I'm going in tonight anyhow (Yesterday I felt like crudcakes that were runover by a steam roller!). Fell off my diet completely and lost 5 lbs over three days - an entire belt notch - this angers me, but I couldn't force it in (and I was sleeping about 12 hours a day!) Had to lecture yesterday (in front of 250 undergrads) for three hours and even that minimal effort gassed me. Been packing in food for the last 24 hours and hoping it goes well.

We'll know in about three hours

I wouldn't worry to much about the weight, when your sick it seems like most of the weight you lose is all water weight. plus your not eating proper and maybe what you do eat ends up in the toilet anyways.. couple days and you will be back...
