You have to take it easy. 275 is alot of weight with a bum shoulder. Now your sore and can't press for a few days. Don't do something because "that guy" says you can do it. He doesn't know how your shoulder is ( or maybe he dose)....

Anyways - still some good lifts !

Thanks Talo. I think he ended up being right...that I would have been able to push it. I keep anticipating the weight and that messes up my form. And then I have shoulder problems. I need to see a powerlifting psychiatrist.

Board presses are definitely fun, Pity. I've only felt 225 one time. So pressing 225, 245, and being under 275 was a pretty new experience. It reminded me of doing heavy walkouts for squats.

Ya I'm not sure how you expect to push 275 if you've never even pushed 245. I think it might been to much of a body shock. Anyways, just take care of yourself out there.

You have got to be kidding, right? It doesn't matter what someone or yourself "thinks" you could have should may have done..only what happens. And just because you can doesn't mean you should.

He's pissed and your shoulder is messed up?

If you act sanctimonious I will just list out your logical fallacies until you get pissed off and spew blasphemous remarks.

He was pissed that I essentially bailed out of the lift. That I had a big mental lapse. He and I both know that I can do better than that. Injury or no, that kind of mental lapse under heavy weight is what will cause injury. That's why my shoulder is bothering me right now. Not because I missed 275, but because I aggravated it while pushing 245. The first two reps at 245 were easy. On the third rep, I tried to anticipate the weight, let it get to low, let it come down too fast, tried to correct it before my spotter could help, and then pushed the weight up. I didn't really know it bothered my shoulder until I tried 275 because I try not to do anything with my shoulders between sets. I did basically the same thing with my first rep at 275 and needed a spot. The second rep was a forced rep, but with barely any assistance. Me being a dumb ass is what the problem is. I've trained with him for several months now, so he has a good idea of what I can do. I wouldn't have tried 245 except for him insisting. And he was right to. Absolutely no reason why I shouldn't have tried 245. I was very comfortable with the movement. I just need to be mentally stronger and learn to trust my shoulder. It has never given out on me when I had proper form, so I shouldn't hold back because of an unprecedented, unlikely event. I suppose I should have clarified better during my first post.

Oh man.

You first time board pressing.

You were trying to take strain off your shoulder which spells "aprehension" which spells "shoulder problem"

Which spells you don't justt throw on 30 pounds like that, even without a shoulder problem it ain't a good idea.

I understand what you are saying...I'm just not going to tell you I think it was a cool idea.

I agree that it wasn't a good idea (hindsight = 20/20). I learned from it, so I suppose it's not a total loss. And it's not a catastrophic injury...I won't miss my next press day. I'm frustrated that I can't progress the way that I want to. In addition to my genetics, it gets me down....SLOW progress. Sorry if I seemed snappy.

Thanks Pity. It smells a little less rank already.
