Gender: | "They say your brain shuts down in cryo-freeze . . . . all but the primitive side . . . the animal side . . . maybe that's why i'm still awake . . ." time for an update of sorts, although there isnt much good news i'm afraid. From sept 11th to oct 2nd i didnt train at all. Work, travel and some rather intense personal problems (if you're thinking they involved a creature with a vagina, you're thinking right!) made it rather difficult to even think about weight training or anything else. the worst part is that my eating and sleeping was for absolute shit. On Oct 3rd i got back to the gym and was crushed by how much strength i lost! To me, this clearly illustrates how important it is to maintian good nutrition even if one cant train!!! anyway, I am trying not to let it depress me! the good news is that i've tried squatting again. I am keeping it real light for now and using sets of 8 reps instead of 5's. I've ditched most of the "beach" work and will just stick to the basic lifts for now. I'm also going to focus on improving my bench press and so will train that lift on mon and fri every week, while doing the OH press only on wed. here's how things will go: week 1 mon: squat bench chins wed: T-bar row OH press Deads Fri: same as mon week 2 mon: T-bar row bench Deads wed: squat OH press Chins fri: same as mon sit-ups and hanging leg raises will be added back in a week or 2. i figure i'll be back at my previous PR's in about 2 more weeks, which means i end up losing about 6 weeks total which totally sucks ass but it is what it is. i still think i can reach my previously stated goals by mid-spring so I guess it's all good. I hope my knee holds out so i can keep squatting, I've really missed those buggers!!!! ![]() |

Gender: | I'm a little curious about your knee problem. You say you tried squatting again. In the interim what did you do to address the problem besides avoiding squatting? Do you know what the nature of the problem is or just that it acted up during squatting? If you haven't addressed it and just start up squatting hoping it will magically come together and you won't see the problem again I can almost guarantee you this won't be the case. I am not trying to discourage you I just don't wan't to see you needlessly laid off. Do you know if it is a mechanical (i.e. hardware) or is it a software problem? There may be some things that will help but just waiting around and then going back to the same things you were dong before almost never works. And if it does seem to work for a while it won't work forever. The only people who believe that healing injuries is pretty much the same as growing muslces or gaining strength (Rip comes to mind) must think that injuries always happen in isolation...and this is not always the case and certainly not the case when it crops up doing slow barbell lifts. Not everyone who squats should someday need knee surgery! |

Gender: | Thanks guys! it's great to be attacking the weights again. i always miss it so much when i cant train! Eric- my problem is a calcified bone formation on the top portion of my left kneecap. it sticks up slightly higher than the actual kneecap therefore putting abnormal pressure on the tendons when in the stretched position. the right side is probably the same (though not as severe), but i only had the left one x-rayed. i am not squatting quite as low as i was before (still below paralell though) and will use a lower intensity range and mostly just play it by ear. I may never be able to squat really heavy but i think i can play around with volume and intensity enough to make the movement useful while avoiding re-injury. btw, it never bothers me while deadlifting. Talo- nope, I'm not worried, just a bit bummed about how MUCH i lost in so short a time! I blame almost all of it on my pityful food intake (I lost about 8 lbs!). |

Free ticket to Crematoria. Thanks Toombs. Got me some business there, named Jack. And once we settle up, I walk away forever. So I'll just wait... all back-of-the-bus for now. " quick update: training is going well, almost back in PR territory again ![]() squats have been going well. no knee problems and i'm real close to volume PR's with the weight I used tonight. weekends have been rough as far as getting all my food into me so my weight has been a bit static. Today i told EVERYONE that there is nothing they can say or do that is keeping me from the dinner table from now until xmas so stay the fuck outta my way! ![]() i havent taken any measurements in a while so i cant say where i am as far as that goes. anyway that's it for now. |
