You don't have to worry too much about getting fat if you are a hardgainer. That said, 4000 calories a day may be more then what you really need to gain some quality lean size.

chicken/turkey breast, eggs, dairy products, and natural peanut butter are your best friend when bulking. have plenty of fruit and veggies too.
