Member designations
Ever thot of designations for members such as vets, vips, distributors ect..
|
This could be easily done, but how would you suggest classifying members? The easiest way I can think of is through post counts.
Does anyone else want to see this or have a better method of classification beyond a members post count? This could be useful as a way to designate who would be considered for future product testing and contests. |
I think its cool have ranks based on posts at the very least get a little more posting out of it, even though theres quite a bit now anyway.
|
Could be post count or status in the community. It would be your call sleazy. Also if you had a rep from another site they could be designated as such. Also you might want a member of the month. Designation for female members and have you set anything up for board donations. You could have donating member designations.
|
I don't know what would be the purpose of any of it except to set up some kind of artificial heirarchy on the board based on largely meaningless post counts or perhaps to stoke the egos of certain members if they feel they should be afforded more "status" than others.
To me this is one step away from REPS. |
It's amazingly beneficial to a forum as it gives members incentive to participate and improve/learn. I do understand your point, which is why any designations would be administrator decisions as to uphold the integrity of said designation.
I did notice Eric that under your name you have veteran status. One would assume, as a newbie coming on board you would be one to look to for valuable information. Anyway, just offering any suggestions which may benefit this forum. |
I know some forums have where a member has posted the most. Which could also be an indication as to there specialties. But this would also need admin. supervision and could also develop ego.

Anyway, I should pay more attention to such things. I'll change it. The REPS system also supposedly gives members an incentive to participate learn but it creates nothing more than a popularity contest. So like both you, X and Dave are saying this would need to be monitored. |
Go to ironmass.com. They have all those perks over there and it seems to work extremely well. Name colors, product tester preference, ect..Contact the mod and ask what they do because it doesn't seem like there's any problems.
|
Definitely a good idea.
|
I think this is a great Idea, but only if my designation can be KING DING A LING

I will start looking into how to get this setup and then get your guys feedback on member levels etc..
|
Okay guys this should be pretty easy to do, first we need to designate the level associated to each "rank"...
What do you think about the following post count scheme... Level 1 -- 1 TO 499 POSTS Level 2 -- 500 TO 999 POSTS Level 3 -- 1000 TO 1,999 POSTS Level 4 -- 2,000 TO 3,499 POSTS Level 5-- 3500 TO 5,499 POSTS Level 6 -- 5,500 TO 9,999 POSTS Level 7-- 10,000+ POSTS As you can see its a tiered program which it gets harder to achieve the next rank. Let me know if you guys think this is too hard or too light or if you have another post count scheme that you would like to suggest. Right now I just want to get the post count and name associated to each level set then we can decide what type of features to build into the site that use the ranking system. I also need some level names to replace instead "Level 1" etc... so suggestions for each level name such as "rookie", "VIP", etc would be appreciated if your good at that type of thing. |
Looks good.. It shouldn't be too easy, and I like how the margin increases the higher the level. Maybe this could be slightly downsized to make it more attainable..
We could just copy what intense muscle does in regards to names (not the actual relation of post counts): New Member -- 1 TO 499 POSTS Bantamweight -- 500 TO 999 POSTS Lightweight -- 1000 TO 1,999 POSTS Middleweight -- 2,000 TO 2,999 POSTS Light Heavyweight-- 3,000 TO 4,499 POSTS Heavyweight -- 5,000 TO 7,499 POSTS Superheavyweight-- 7,500+ POSTS This works out to: New member -> Bantamweight = +500 posts -> Lightweight = +500 -> Middleweight = +1,000 -> Light Heavy = +1,000 -> Heavy = +2,000 -> Super Heavy = +2,500 Since this is a bodybuilding forum, I think this idea is awesome. Of course the numbers can be tweeked higher or lower..This is only a rough estimate. :) |
That way each level takes more posts than previous. It's also pretty easy to spot and delete post whoring between the two of us. Anything stupid like a smiley or a one liner like, "lol".. I usually read just about everything every day :D
|
I like the posts levels and the names 0311...anyone else want to chime in on this?
I was also thinking usernames could be colored depending on rank each member obtains, this is another way that we can easily identify veterans. |

I was thinking of another idea as well. What if we had an option of putting experience levels underneath your avatar?..Ironmass does it, and I've noticed the few times I went over there that a lot of people seem to tell the truth. Tons of 1-2 year experience levels over there. I thought it would be a good fail-safe..So newbs to the site who are brand new to lifting can tell the difference between having a lot of posts/rank, and having actual experience. |
Super Heavy should be represented with a Glowing Hot Pink name plate ... cause when your a super heavy weight, you can get away with shit like that hahaha.
Great ideas guys, I'm diggin the improvements. |
That would mean
0311 Super Heavy Weight I like it. |
I was thinking
Pawn Knight Bishop King God J/K what 0311 did looks good to me. The hot pink rules |
