Default Site Suggestions

I got the idea from another forum, but I think it's a good one. For all of our guests that frequent this site (we always have about ten), there should be a pop-up shown that says to register here. The pop up lasts for 20 or so seconds, but at least when people see it they'll say "what the hell". What do ya'll think

20 sec may be too long. how 'bout a window that asks to register (or "become a member") "to take advantage the benefits of being a member" now or later. When the 'now' button is pushed he (or she) can register. When the 'later' button is pressed the window goes away.

I gonna say no and here's why. Every time I come here there is always ten or so guests. Now, after about an hour, I see no new names pop up which tells me they aren't taking the time to register. So, putting that there for 20 seconds pretty much bugs them to either sign up and read the forum or come beck when you have more time to sign up. Anabolic minds has a assload of members and they incorperate this idea. Other forums won't let you search unless you sign up. Either way, I signed up with others for one or both of those reasons. Giving the people a choice like you said I don't think will be effective. They already have a choice when they come on anyway. It already says in big blue letters, "REGISTER". IMO

But what do members who "sign up" and don't participate do for the site. There could be a million members here, but if only us 10 are participating, then it's just the same site.

There have been other sites of various interests that I have "joined" just to post one message, or even just to see some "members only" content, never to return again.

I don't think badgering anyone into signing up will increase traffic, or, more importantly, quality posts.

i think we need to spread the word across other boards. Perhaps by inserting links to our threads in similar ones on other sites.

0311, I know I have linked some of your missives on wannabebig.com (one or two, I believe).

Traffic isnt really bad right now but there are some slow days. If people have questions then they will join would it be bad if there was a members only section here?

There has been a couple of forums that my name was already taken. Doesn't surprise me considering 0311 is an MOS in the Marine Corps and there are thousands of em old and new.

Are you referring to a specific snipet I cut and pasted to help people here out? I never signed up there, but maybe I found some info there when I google certain topics that I happen to agree with. If that's the case then you can get the Sherlock Holmes Award for having alot of time on your hands. I can't tell if you're saying that trying to pick a fight or what?

Now, I have a pretty good idea what's what when it comes to bodybuilding. I don't know everything certainly, but I must know some to get to 250 (3 months ago) and hit a bench of 365 x 4 w/out a spot. Now, if I have an idea or if someone needs help getting big, I'm not the type of guy to throw out opinions. I have my own opinions, then I go and find examples as to why I think a certain way about a topic someone needs help on. So I leave the person I help knowing why I posted what I did. I don't just throw out claims like inclines aren't effective because I don't like them or without showing why. Honestly, the info is out there. Some you'll agree with, some not. I always post in my own experience, then go and find an explaination as to why that's better explained than what I can do. You liked the No2 info I "cut and pasted" to help you out because you still show everyone links to it, right? Also, I took the time to post all that info on what I feel is the best exercise routine to get a bigger chest, drawing from my own exp. I don't appreciate getting called out saying I'm wrong when obviously I'm not. I appreciate the counter argument of course, but I'm definately not alone in some type of incline being one of the best overall chest exercises, and flat bench is overrated. You should take everyone's advice and give it a try. I'm not trying to make enemies here, I'm just trying to help.

When I said "cut and pasted" I really meant I linked back to this site's thread. I think one of the things I linked was some info on NO you put in a thread that I started a couple weeks ago. It was very helpful, and I just passed that along. The link was to the entire thread, so the people do know who posted it...I wasn't trying to pass it off on my own.

And I would never post someone elses opinion on another board and then take issue w/ it when he isn't around to defend the position. Anything I would link, I agree with.

You're not making any enemies here (with me, anyway). I appreciate the feedback.

I wouln't want to make 0311 an enemy because he has all these pseudo-moderator powers and can alter my posts! (lol--Taurus sometimes cracked me up)

What do we have, like maybe ten people who post every day? Pretty soon, there will be all the same advice and all the bomb_r2 posts (lol). New, active, blood would be great. And where are the chicks? Do we have any women on the site? On wannabebig there's at least a few.

Well, people have to become members to post a question. Or to put an answer into a thread. So I guess all the sections are pretty much "members only".
