I've heard good results from the people who have used Truemass, good product for bulking up if you want to use whey protein powder supplements, but probably a bit more expensive than other products out there.

I've heard mixed results about NoXplode. Some say it's not worth it, some say it does its job well, but almost all agree that it gives a decent energy boost during your workout.

I would go with the Truemass if those were your only two products and you could only use one

well, your two most important supplements IMHO to have are:
1. a protein powder (like Truemass if you're bulking up)
2. a multivitamin

others will argue this supplement and that supplement being needed, but those two included in a clean diet and good exercise program will cover the basics.

there are different kinds of protein powders, too. usually you can just read the ingredients and you'll see them:

1. whey protein (i.e. Truemass) is the fastest digesting and is best used for pre-workout and post-workout shakes.
2. casein protein is a little slower to digest, so is great to use before bedtime.

I'll let the other more experienced members suggest other supplements to use besides the two that I suggested because I only use 4 supplements, including those two.
the other two I use, and I don't know if anyone else on this forum has tried it, is a Niacin pill + a Chromium Picolinate pill with my pre-workout shake.

hope this helps!

My $0.02....

Screw NoX. If you want some pre-workout energy, have some coffee or a caffeine pill. That's the 'energy boost' that's in there anyway, caffeine. And the arginine in it is pretty well useless pre-workout.

All you really need to get going: protein powder (I suggest whey isolate but really any decent protein will do). Multivitamins. And fish oils.

If you're a newbie to lifting, ride that newbie effect while you can. You'll make killer gains for a while. Then when you're newbie gains start to wear off, worry more about possibly using some additional supplementation.

I agree with Triggey and IronKitten. I have wasted a lot of money and time searching for supplementation and have found that all you really need is good protein and multivitamins. Getting an energy boost prior to a workout can be helpful but is not required. On a side note....I miss my newbie gains now I have to work my ass off (not that I mind) for small gains. Enjoy them while you can. Good luck.

just one more thing to add, everyone has given good advice but seems to have forgotten the carbs. Your pre and post workout shakes should have some type of fast absorbing carbs. you should find that dextrose/malto-dextrin is the cheapest and one of the most effective ways to go.

Hrdgain's right carbs are a must. Maltodextrine is prob the cheapest and most effective, add a scoop of whey and some creatine if you want.

TALO's Sig:"But when do you actually grow? Well, we don't grow in the gym. In the gym, we destroy. We tear down the body. We only grow when we are recovering. That's right, I said recovery. I see it all the time--people beating themselves up in the gym and not seeing results. They don't understand that hitting the weights hard is only a small part of growing or even cutting down. I could train the same all year round and get big or get ripped just by eating different and taking different supplements"
