Default Need a Lot of Advice

Hey everyone. I'm 19, 5'7", and only 125lbs, so I'd like to be bigger. I used to work out a lot in high school, but I never ate enough, so I would get stronger and look slightly better, but never really gained much size.

I'm currently taking GNC's Mass XXX in addition to working out and eating more. Should I just leave it at this, or is there more I should be doing?

I started at around 120lbs, with hard work you can easily get bigger. Im 223lbs 5'9

Most important thing is your diet and training.

Its good that you're taking steps to fix your diet. Have a look at some of the pinned threads in the nutrition section so you can learn about what you should be eating.

Have a look at Bill Star 5x5 training program, that should help pack on the mass.

As far as supplements go, at your weight I would stick to a weight gainer. I am sure you can find something cheaper, or make one yourself. But IMHO I would buy one with lots of calories.

You should also look into getting
Protein Isolate: For post workout supplementation
Dextrose: Post workout
Fish Oil: Fats.

But right now, at your weight work on diet and training first then play around with supps.

Thanks for the quick response guys. A lot of these exercises I've never attempted before, and I don't have anyone to spot me, so I'm trying to look up instructional vids for each of them so I don't end up killing myself. I guess I'll just work on my form for a while before I start really going at it. Also for the accessory exercises in the 5x5, it doesn't say exactly how many sets or reps. Is it just consistent with the 5x5?

One more thing. Is cardio something I can do every day, or should I just do it on the 5x5 off days?

This is the link I'm looking at as a reference by the way: http://www.bodybuilding.net/training...ight=Bill+Star

Don't go to gnc no more, you can find other places that sell quality whey, creatine, multi vitamins and fish oil. You just gotta eat right and a lot, lift heavy, and give enough time for your muscles to heal (sleep enough) I started out at 135 at 5'8 a little over a year ago and I'm at 177. I started benching at 125 and now I'm benching twice as much. Oh and you must work out on your legs squating and deadlifts will be your bestfriend for bulking.

Do some reading, a lot of the guys and girl here are helpful and willing to help. Good luck

UmmmPain's Sig:eat, lift heavy, sleep and repeat
currently 175-178lb
Bench 245 3x10 and 275 5x5
Current goal bulk to 200-215lb

Old enough to go to war but not old enough to drink...

I second what UmmmPain says, especially about the squats and deadlifts. I saw little results until I started these and rows/dips/pullups, and then bam! mass started packing on. Now I love the major compound exercises and wonder how the isolation guys do it w/o them.

Oh, and I definately modified my diet! Eat correctly and eat ALOT.

Just because I don't remember if you've mentioned it in any other threads, when you say "I eat a lot", how many calories (protein/carbs/fats) does that add up to?

Here's some advice that was VERY good for me-sign up at fitday.com By inputting the food that you eat each day, it tells you how much protein, fat, carbs, and calories you're eating. It's also free.

Compound exercises rule!!! Take about a scoop of protein after your workout, with some dextrose, and you'll be doing real good!

Good luck!

Thanks for the responses everyone. I went into the gym earlier today and got someone to help me learn more about all the exercises the 5x5 entails. Seems like my body is in for a lot (legs especially).

Well, I'm attempting to eat more. I input my information into that little formula thing (forgot what its called?) and I'm aiming to intake about 3000 calories a day, but the situation I'm currently in doesn't always allow that. As far as protein/carbs/fats go, I'm never good at keeping track of everything, and half the time I don't know. I'm living in a dorm right now so it's near impossible for me to cook everything I eat myself.

What situation is that ?
