Default protein

I was always told before that after mixing a protein shake you should try and drink it asap. Some of you however have said in this forum that you mix it before you go to workout and then drink it for your pwo. Thanks

Some take a little protein before and then the majority after their workout. You definately need it after your workout so take it as soon as you can when your done. You also want to take it with some simple carbs like dextrose to help absorb the protein. The ratio is usually 2 grams of carbs per 1 gram of protein.

I know all that, what I am asking is doesn't protein become not as effective if left in a liquid for over 30min? That's just what I remember from researching this about a year ago. I just remember if you mix it you should drink it asap. Thanks

Sorry I read your question too fast

Honestly, I don't know the answer to the question but I really don't understand how the protein could lose much of its effectiveness just from being premixed. If you think about it, all those ready to drink cans are premixed also but just have some ingredients to preserve them.

The only thing I was able to find was some people making references to certain chemicals being broke down by letting the protein sit in a liquid for a long time. Most of these references were to protein powders that sat in liquid for more than 24 hrs, so I think you should be fine if you just want to have premade and chilled for a short time. Protein shakes do go nasty fast and start to stink if they are left too long though.

You're the first poster I've ever seen who cares about that. If you can't find the answer then there's a simple solution. Take your protein and put 2 scoops in your shaker/bottle. When you're done working out, fill it with water and there you go. Now you don't need to worry about whether or not protein is stable in liquid for a long period of time or not.

Default Shaker Mix

Yeah but what about if you mix with milk. There is always ease of access. I like to make the mix and then take some in a bottle to school during the day and then have it there for my PWO. Then I keep some at home for my shake before bed. It sits for about a maximum of two days
