if you are trying to gain mass, a "fat burner" or more specifically a metabolic enhancing suppliment wouldnt be the best idea. If your worried about gaining excess fat durring a bulk, make diet adjustments, not suppliment purchases ... but I dont think thats where you were going with this.

Ok thats what I though but I wanted someone else's opinion. I'm trying to count carbs/calories/protein/fat grams each day so my diet is pretty good. I tried a fat burner a while back and found out that a decent diet would have just about the same results. Everyone I've talked to said to take Hydroxi cut or something similar, didn't know what all the fuss was about. Thanks for the input.

Another question about supplements. Is creatine a must? I've always been a little leery about taking the stuff considering researchers post articles one minute saying it’s perfectly safe and the next time they say it causes liver damage. I was looking through all of the posts on creatine and it seams like just about everyone has added it to their diet.

Any suggestions on brand? The one thread I was looking at was 2-3 years old, couldn't even find half of the names suggested.

Show me a study that says it's unhealthy.

Try nutraplanet...they have a kilo of creatine monohydrate for 12.99, I believe.

I have yet to see any evidence saying that creatine monohydrate is even a little bit dangerous.

If you search on the internet you can find articles for and against creatine. I don't believe there is any hard evidence saying its bad.

Talking to several nutritionists are college and they all say about the same thing. Its only bad if you aren't consuming enough water through out the day.

Does it help a lot with gains in strength/size?

From what I understand, it contributes to a speedier recovery, and enhanced muscle mass during the breakdown-and-rebuild period. I like to take mine right after a WO, to give my body the energy it craves. About 1/2 hr before a WO, would probably be a good idea, also, to give you energy during the WO. I have seen creatine @ Wal-Mart for I wanna say about $10 for 2 Lbs. Wal-Mart also carries Glutamine, BCAAs, and other 'not-so-useful' supplements. I would only buy the BCAAs, and maybe Glutamine. The other 'pump' this and that stuff, I've heard is real junk.

Glutamine isn't worth the money. BCAAs are not worth the money. Have you compared the amino acid profile of a single serving of whey to a standard serving of BCAAs?

Creatine won't actually give you energy since it has very few (if any) calories. So long as your muscles are saturated with creatine, I don't think it matters when you take it. Absorption might be a little better PWO though.
