Question Whey Protein Concentrate

Hey guys, quick question:
(and I know that I should already know the answer to this, but for some reason, I felt unsure)

I noticed in my local grocery store, (they have a bulk health food section) that they had a bag of "Whey Protein Concentrate", it was just a plain offwhite powder. It was cheap as hell. Is this EXACTLY the same stuff in my protein products? Or does this stuff have other changes made to it before it's used? I don't want to buy it and find out that only 1% of it is protein my body can use. I realize it's not an isolate, and it probably won't mix all that damn easy, but hell, it's about 1/10th the price I'm paying right now.

Also, it doesn't say how many grams of protein are in a certain amount, so am I being naive? Is it 30 grams of protein per 30 gram serving?

Any help?

If it's just whey concentrate than it has alot of impurities like lactose and fat. That means that if it says 30 grams per serving of protein, you're probably only getting 20 or so. I've been completely hooked on VP2 isolate, but due to trying to save money, I opted for 100% whey. It at least has isolate, concentrate, and hydroslate (sp). Of course hydro is the best digestable, followed by isolate. It looks like you're saving money, but buying isolate or a more pricy brand you get more for your money. But, if you're bulking with a blatent disregard for gaining extra fat, buy a few more.

Default Thanks guys

Thanks for the info guys. I kind of suspected it probably wasn't pure. I don't want any of that crap. I'll just have to pay a little more for a reputable brand so that I at least know what I'm getting. This stuff was cheap (which is partially what tuned my suspicions in the first place) it cost 6 Canadian dollars for a kilo!! That's like 5 US dollars. There was no list of ingredients on the package so I figured I'd ask some experts.

Good call on skipping on it BR! There is nothing wrong with Whey protein concentrate if it comes from a reputable company. If you can get a good Whey isolate/concentrate mix then I feel that's the way to go. Your isolate will be a little more expensive than concentrate, but they take out the lactose, ash and what not in the process.
