Default A little building help

Hey all. I have a question about building at 40. I just turned 40, I used to work out all the time until the kids came along, now I am back for the last year. I gained about 10-15 lbs and I am bigger than I was at 20 but now I am stuck. I am 5-9 at 195-200lbs at about 18%bf but want to bulk more before spring. I work out heavy each day, benching max 320 and heavy squats which is where I gained some of it because I had legs so skinny I could sit on a wire. I eat like a football team and sup with 3-4 shakes a day too any suggestions on how to pack on another 10lbs before cut down time in the spring?

Yes, up your cals. How long have you been lifting heavy each day? You may be over training, and your body wont respond well to stimuli if it is beat down. If you havent changed up your program, or taken a week and dropped or wieghts down think about doing so. Sometimes even a full week off will work miracles when you stall.

In spite of how much food you already eat, try swappig a couple shakes out for real food. Shakes can't compare with food for building mass. If you want to go all out ditch a straight up whey shake for a mass gaining shake. I'm using cyto gainer right now and love it!!!

I agree with Johan you can't repalce a meal with a shake,But you can't give up your whey shakes for a little food either

Damn. You realize that if you cut down some of that bodyfat, you'll certainly appear a lot bigger overall? At 18% and being a consumate bulker for life, it could get really ugly if you aren't careful!

Default more food

Nope I only use the whey for inbetween my 5-6 real food meals. I eat so much sometimes that instead of a steak I will eat an entire roast. I have to have the body fat done a different way because I use one the electronic ones and I hear that if you use creatine the water in your system will throw it off. I lift heavy everyday but only for about an hour and I generally seperate all body parts so I hit them each 1 time per week. like mon- chest, tues-back, weds-legs, thurs shoulders, and fri - arme and I take sat-sun off. then about every six weks or so I rotate it all around so I don't get bored. I even stopped cardio for the most part because I have a pretty fast metabolism anyway. I guess I will have to up it to 2 roasts for dinner,LOL

I think you can definitely find yourself a better workout plan in some of the stickies at the training board. Your body may be stuck on this workout.

you say you stopped cardio because you have a fast metabolism? at 18%bf that doesnt sound very fast to me imo. i would add in some cardio at least a few times a week for a minimum of 30 to 40 min, not just to burn fat but for cardiovascular also. i would work on cutting down and really watching what you eat to bring your bf down some. it will make you look bigger and its easier to see whats happening with your muscles without a layer of fat surrounding it...

You guys are acting like he's a fat ass

Not to completely disagree with everyone as you might want to cut down some as 18% could be considered a little high for an active individual. But I do want to say that that is not fat for a forty year old gentleman. I think something in the 14 to 16 range is something to aim for or simply go by appearance. Not everyone needs to be all cut up ready to jump on stage in a bikini , but I agree that more visible muscles appear to be larger muscles in general.

If you act sanctimonious I will just list out your logical fallacies until you get pissed off and spew blasphemous remarks.
