I have had a lot of people at the gym where i work out at that i should try Muscle Milk Colligete. I was just wondering if anyone had tried it or had any feed back

It's a waste of money. You want a 3:1 or 4:1 ratio of carbs to protein PWO, but you don't need to buy MM Collegiate. Look for a cheap gainer and take smaller servings. Same result.

I agree with you Matt, but sometimes you just can't eat anymore and a liquid diet can be a good way to fill the void in your diet.

I've recently increased my diet, and sometimes I can't eat anymore. Oppurtune time to grab a shake and force more cals/macros in. :D

As a post workout supplement, gainers can be better than food. Also, like Kane said, they can be great when you're not in the mood for food. I eat so much & so often that I get sick of it. For me, having a gainer is an easy way to get in 800-1000 calories in a meal without feeling like shit afterwards.

The walmart brand should be fine. Muscle Juice by ultimate nutrition is a good deal. It's $25 at prosource.net for 10lbs. I've been thinking about ordering that. Dymatize's Super Mass Gainer is a good deal also, but I've heard it tastes like ass.

Ok, so here's the skinny on the situation.

PWO, you want a low fat 3:1 or 4:1 ratio of high GI carbs to whey protein for rapid glycogen replenishment. This helps to bring the body into an anabolic state.

If your workouts do not severely deplete glycogen and/or you don't train consecutive days, then having high GI carbs PWO isn't essential. It is still important to consume carbs and protein. You will still reach the anabolic state.

For me, the easiest thing in the world is to just throw back a shake with high GI carbs & a little protein. I just feel better knowing that I've brought myself out of a catabolic state and I'm replenishing glycogen quickly.

After your PWO shake, you should consume a meal that's very high in protein. That's when protein will do the most good.

So in your case Matt, you could eat some carbs and lean protein immediately after training. Then have another portion of lean protein and carbs about an hour or so afterwards.

Net caloric/macronutrient intake is the most important aspect. Nutrient timing is pretty important too. It helps to optimize your growth.

When I'm being good with my diet, I have a PWO shake. Then 30 minutes later, I have a low fat, high protein meal. Then about 2 hours after that, I'll have a balanced meal that's still high in protein, but that contains fat.

I take back the recommendation for Muscle Juice. Apparently the main carb source is HFCS.

but haven't you seen the commercials.....hfcs is super dandy for your body.
