BCAA's
Quick question guys (since I can't seem to find the answer). I'm using Pro-Lab Advanced whey and I noticed it has BCAA's mixed in, so I'm not taking them seperately anymore. I'm taking in about 4-5 shakes per day (2 scoops) (including pre and post), so here's my question. Are there any side-effects (good, bad, or otherwise) to taking a large amount of BCAA's? and Is there a limit to how many you can/should ingest in a day (in grams)?
Here's the link for the prolab product info http://www.prolab.com/ecommerce/cont...oduct_id=10127 |

Damn, Kane. I'm sorry I realize I didn't answer your question in terms of "good" side effects. There is a BCAA/Cit. Malate overview posted in the nutrition articles section that should help. If you can't find it I'll link it.

Oh it definitely could be higher (or lower) than some products depending on the mixture and relative proportions of concentrate, isolate, peptides, things like that. Sorry I misread 4 to 5 shakes to mean 4 to 5 scoops.
Yes that is the ratio I'm speaking of. And I posted again as your were replying I think. Linked you to an article. |
Thanks for your reply Eric. It helped me out quite a bit. You learn something new everyday around this place.

You're welcome of course. I can't find any mention of side-effects of BCAA's at any dose (no reported side effects). Most likely any extra will just be oxidized, used to make other aminos, stored as fat...
I have read of something to do with trytophan pathways is the brain(??) I'm not sure if that had to do with supplementing leucine alone, for which there are theoretical dangers, or what. I DON't think it's a realistic concern but if I find it again I'll post. |

There is no danger in superdosing BCAA's. I've gone as high as 50g a day, and I saw no adverse effects Kane.
Nothing to worry about bro |
