Caps or Powder?

Im going to start taking several supplements while also starting to get into a 12 week MAX-OT program. Ive worked out fior many years now and have come to a point where not much is reallly working for me, so im going to try this program which tells me to throw out everything i ever thought i knew.

Anyway.....

What do you guys think is better to take caps or powder? Is there a difference in how well they work?

It seems to me that caps would be a lot easier and more practical seeing as you can just pop them as you go, but i was wondering if there is any benefits/shortcomings between the two?

Im going to start taking......

L-Glutamine
Fish oil
Taurine
And glucosamine for my joints as to help prevent any possible injury

I know the fish oil is in cap form and so is the glucosamine, but mainly wondering about the other 2 amino acids

Thanks guys.

Definately go bulk powder for glut and taurine. I wouldnt like to try taking 5g worth of either of these by caps. I toss them in my post drink.

I would also recommend the newer Celadrin & MSM by now foods http://www.1fast400.com/?products_id=1958

I will be buying this next order, for $8.99 ya cant go wrong. Ive seen some reveiws for omega flex, celedrin msm and glucosamine, but $25 is too rich for me right now, tho no doubt a good product.

But if ya like pills, and taking a handful. do it. Id rather dump it in a shake, or just drink it with a little water. Those guys dont taste nearly as bad as some of the bulk powders. Actually, these 2 have no taste.

You toss the caps in your post drink??

Is it ok to mix the powders?

Pills are great for nasty stuff like flax/fish oil, but you have to be aware of the dosage. These pills usually contain ~1 gram of fat each, that is nothing when your supposed to be taking 1-2 tablespoons of most EFA's per day. That would mean consuming around 25 caps a day to get the right amount.

Bulk powders are usually better because they are cheaper and just easier to get the right amounts to toss in your shakes or other liquid. As the others said you usually can't get the right amount of most supplements by caps without taking like 10+ at a time. At least that has been my experience with them.

At one time I was swallowing 25 fish oil caps to get around 6 grams of EFA's per day. Thank god walmart sells triple strength fish oil caps :D

Is it ok to mix your L-glutamine and other amino acids right in to your protien shake?

I would assume it wouldnt matter, but just wanna make sure.

I think glutamic acid already in your postworkout ingredients is the best glutamine-at least 5%. For my glutamic intake, I took 10-15 grams postworkout mixed in with everything else, then anote 10-15 grams before bed.

Atkins?

I don't know about you guys, but I gave up on the fish oils and flax seed oils I was buying and purchased "Atkins Essential Oils", mainly because I know their products are high quality and reputable. Usually they are way too expensive (the Atkins Essential Oils originally sold for $28.99 Canadian where I live) and there was no way I was paying that for 60 gel caps. Recently Atkins products have been hugely on sale (I guess coz he kicked the bucket) so I picked up his "Atkins Accel" and "Atkins Essential Oils". Here's the break dwon, in case anybody is interested in trying them (believe me, I'm not pushing the company, I just think if you can find them cheap, they are worth it because their quality and testing procedures are excellent):

Atkins Essential Oils contain:

Vitamin E (mixed tocopherols) 10 IU

Alpha linolenix acid (omega-3 from flaxseed) 220mg

Docosahexanoic acid (omega-3 from fish oil) 80mg

Eicosapentanoic acid (omega-3 from fish oil) 120mg

Gamma linolenic acid (GLA, omega-3 from borage seed oil) 96mg

Linoleic acid (omega-6 from borage, flaxseed and fish oils) 152.5mg

Oleic acid (from borage, flaxseed and fish oils) 202.5mg

I take one of these early in the morning, and one mid-evening.

I don't know about the dosages, how close they are to meeting my daily requirement, but I was taking lower quality fish oils before, and I read that you can get sick if you take them from a company that doesn't handle the products properly before distributing.

FYI - Just in case anybody cares, the Atkins Accel product contains the following:

Niacin 15mg

Chromium (glycinate) 100 mcg

Grean Tea Leaf Extract (Camellia sinesis/provides 50 mg caffeine and 90 mg epigallocatechin gallate) 600mg

Accelerator Blend (providing 25mg methylxanthines): 600mg
Yerba mate (llex paraguariensis) leaf extract, guarana seed extract and cocoa extract(Theobroma cacao)

Thryoplex Blend (Guggul extract (Commiphora mukul), 50mg
bladderwrack kelp (Fucus vesiculosus), dl-phenylalanine, l-tyrosine)

I take those 2 to 3 times a day when I'm cutting. The Accel tabs are suppose to enhance fat loss & support normal thyroid function.

I believe the Accel tablets were originally around $25 to $30 Canadian dollars as well.

I found them both on sale for around 9 Canadian dollars each (that's around 7 US dollars) for a months supply. I grabbed a couple of bottles of each.

What do you guys think? Are the dosages of those two products high enough?

Thanks for any advice or comments:

It all comes down to cost and convenience. Not to mention are you man enough to stomach the powders. I personally try to go with powders and generally mix them in my protein drinks. I can drink flax oil straight and shoot down any powder I want. But sometimes caps are just more convenient especially if traveling so I try to carry both. Other than that there is no difference.
