What kind of powder should I use?

Ok, I've been here for some time but I found out that I should be in takeing more then 50 grams of protein, I should be taking in 200+. But I find that I can't eat that many in my meals without my mother screaming at me becuse I am eating an the freaking chiken and tuna in the house. So I thought, hey, I need to get some protein powder, to make shakes. What kind should I get? I found that I can get a gallon of this one powder for 20 bucks at costco, asking a friend who works there on what kind it is.

From talking to other friends I've found out that ones that have Whey-based, or Whey in it. Can use some help on this please. Thanks for reading!

I'm not sure how much a gallon of powder I usually deal with lbs. Did you happen to list your stats and goals in another thread mayb I mised but if you didnt mayb list here and people will be able to tell you how much protien you need.

WantingMuscle7 06-19-2005 06:31 AM

Oh god nevermind I just read your other thread sorry for the stats thing.

I use Optimum Nutrition's 100% Whey Double Chocolate and I am very happy w/ it. 23g protein per serving, plus the 8g I get with the (no fat) milk I mix it w/.

I take the ON on my days off....it is very good and affordable. I take Muscle Milk by Cybersport on my on days! Keep one thing in mind though. The body can't process any more than 40-45 grams per take in. So taking more than 40 grams at one time is a waste. Spread it out over the course of 5-6 meals per day

Where do you get that stat? I don't have a particular study, but look at this:

Yup, that's what I tried to tell other members in this forum as well. It was under "Protein Myths". Unless you're lactose intollerant with protein powder, you can easily assimilate more IMO...

Going by the 40 grams max logic, that's a dietary intake of 220-240 grams of protein total per day. I need at least...well let's see...246 X 1.5= 369 grams per day at least, and I always shoot for 400. If my body can only assimilate 40 grams per sitting, that would require me to eat 9-10 meals in a day. That would mean if I wake up at 6 AM, I'd eat one 40 gram meal every 2 hours until around midnight.

You should go over to this website where they stress 400 grams AT LEAST per day. www.intensemuscle.com

0311 how much protien do you take per sitting?

At least 50 grams. Mostly coming from 90% ground beef or tuna fish. I usually make my own creations such as taking 2 pounds of ground beef and making some hamburger helper out of 2 boxes worth. I divide that by 5 meals and there you go. As for protein shakes, I drink 23 grams of whey w/ a very tall glass of milk before bed. I take 23 grams whey before I workout and another 50 grams after. I keep good track, if I ever start falling behind I'll eat a few cans of tuna here and there. Another recipe I make is taking 2 scoops (46 grams) of whey and adding it to a big bowl of oatmeal. Oh yeah, my daily breakfast ritual is 4-5 egg whites plus 2 whole eggs for a total of around 7 eggs per day.

WantingMuscle7 06-20-2005 12:32 PM

Wow I see now how your gettin 400 grams a day.

verbatimreturned 06-20-2005 02:12 PM

yea i definatly take in way over 40 grams of protien in one sitting .last night i ate a sh*t load of chicken definatly hit way over 40 grams of protein. also lets say u make a protien shake and put in 2 scoops of protien your definatly having more that 40 grams at one time. well the point is...your body can take in more than 40 grams at one time

apocalypse 06-20-2005 08:14 PM

U all know better. Ur body can only absorb 23 grams of protein per sitting. If u take in 24 the body is going to to shit out all of it. If u take less then again, ur body will shit it all out :D :D :D Kidding aside, I dont believe in that 30 grams of protein per meal shit either.

I read the attached article, and that was the same impression that I had. I had a competing trainer tell me the info on the 40grms. per meal. I'm so confused.....I like the idea of packing in more protein....personally I don't see where it can hurt to pack it in, especially if its coming from chicken, fish, etc...

Simply not true.

I'm damn near on the 0311 plan myself. 5 whites, 1 whole in the morning. 25g preshake, 50-g post shake... btw 0311, the VP2 seems to be doing it's job

sdf42450 06-22-2005 10:56 AM

my PWO shake alone has 100-125g protein and its not going into the toilet...

+ i eat another meal about an hour after that. while consuming another 100g+ worth of protein in milk... this 40g bs is just that: bs.

WantingMuscle7 06-22-2005 12:32 PM

Thats like 4 scoops isnt your shake really thick then.

i have a "1cup" scoop that i use to measure protein powder into my shake. i use 10oz of water and usually flavor it with 2 packs of fat free hot chocolate mix. its not even as thick as drinking milk. the key is to get the right protein

joeyboy777 06-22-2005 02:35 PM

My shaker cup is well over half full before I add water. I think I have landolakes protein, 70%. Ill have to read the label later, Mixes up real nice, does not clump at all. The only thickness I have in my mix is from the oats. About to take one now. damn tasty. I will try upping the protein some. I usually use a 1:1 pro:carb mix.

verbatimreturned 06-22-2005 05:29 PM

landolakes protein, never heard of it before where did u buy it from? (confused because i always though landolakes makes butter)

Yeah, its a whey, so tecnically, from milk. http://www.foodingredientsintl.com/n80.htm
My stuff is actually labeled Mullins Whey as seen here, http://www.ok.org/kfgProducts.asp?ir...LLINS+WHEY+INC.
they bag it for nutrapro also. Im not sure of who owns who,and doesbusinessas what anymore. I used to be a bulk buyer for whole foods and became good friends with some sellers (they will give samples/cases to promote their lines) so I picked up a 50lb sac cheap. there are different guys/comp that sell in bulk. AllTheWhey, animal, trueprotein, BN has the 10lb sacs, http://www.store.honeyvillegrain.com...80--50-LB.html Protein is all over, just have to find the good stuff. Mine is alright, good for what little I paid. Im going for the good stuff next bag.
