Default 5x5 advice

Hi,

Been doing a fair bit of reading and it seems to me that 5x5 is one of the best programs for gaining weight and strength, so I'm going to start on it. My problem is that, for the time being I'm not able to do squats or deadlifts because of a knee injury, maybe for another few months. (I was also thinking of rippetoe's, but since I'm not doing legs I might as well do a couple more sets ?). Anyway I'm going to stick to the rest of the program doing Bench, Military Press and Pendlay rows for 5x5 at the same weight and add weight when I get all reps. I'll probably do ab work each workout as well. My question is; should I do this workout (ie. all 3 exercises) each workout and 3 times a week. Or should I just do it 2 times a week. What do you think ? I'm not 100% sure on this.

Thanks in advance for your help

Peter

Your body grows as a whole. Wait until your knee is ready. It won't kill you to wait.

so your seriously saying not to do any kind of weight training till my knee heals ? Surely theres got to be some benefit of just doing the exercises that I'm able to.

In regards to your knee injury have you seen a sports physician?

Personally, I would recommend you to wait until your body is healed. I have gone ahead and done what exercises I could when I had an injury and ended up making things worse than they would have if I had just waited. I know it will seem like an eternity but it is better in the long run.

Bench: 415 (1x1)
Deads: 565 (1x1)
A2G Squat: 425 (1x1)

Cardio sucks

If you stand to lose alot of gains that you've made I would go ahead with the upper body only (providing you can safely do it without aggrevating the injury).

If you're just starting out then waiting will not kill you. Better to approach this program full assed, not half.

Kane's Sig:Bench:275 [1x1]
Deadlift:365 [1x3]
A2G Squat:275 [1x3]

"Shut up and squat!"

"NO, this is my squat rack. Go get your own!"
