Default 5X5 - deadlifts

I'm doing the DFT 5x5...it's my first week. What exercise could I replace deadlifts with? I know that no exercise will replace deadlifts, but is there something worthwhile that I could substitute? Or should I just drop it altogether. I tried doing them a month ago and it killed me. I'm just thrilled to be doing squats again. I tried doing normal situps Monday, but I can't do those. For some reason I can do decline situps though. I'm still figuring out what I can and can't do.

I have a ruptured disc (L5S1) in the lower back, and I recently added a herniated or ruptured disc in my upper back to the repetoire..haven't gone to the doctor yet to figure that one out. It's right between the shoulder blades though.

Thanks

Rack pulls may be an option for you. Hope you heal up soon.

Alright cool..I'll try those out

Yeah my squat form is pretty much perfect. My squats will probably progress slowly just because I'm afraid to do so much weight that I might come out of a rep wrong and make things worse. Then again, I'll probably get overconfident soon enough and manage to hurt it anyway.
