Default am i wasting my time?

hey all,

currently i train with an odd split. my work schedule demands that i can only go two days in a row, with two days off with no end of that cycle in sight.

so, i usually try to rotate: back/forearms/bi/, chest/tri, and quads/hams/calfs.

i do about 12 sets total, consisting of 3 different exercises for back, and 3 sets for forearms and 3 more for bis.

chest/tri day i do about 12 sets total, consisting of 3 different exercises for chest, and about 6 sets total consisting of 2 different exercises for tris.

leg day i do 5 sets for each for quads, hams and calves. i've been taking it slow with legs due to lower back pain, subing front squats for full squats.

now, i read the 'why aren't you growing sticky' and noted this:

Quote:
4) Training a bodypart once per week (and one bodypart per day) is one of the worst ways to train.
my main concern with full body work is that i don't have access to lots of nutrional food (due to deployment), so i don't want to get to where i'm not fully recovering from my workouts.

i'm not, nor do i plan to be, a professional bb'er, but i would like gain more muscle.

i've been working out regularly again for 4 months, am 6"1' and 215, roughly 20% bf..

one more question i had: what is a good vitamin supplement? i'm guilty of using a one a day..

I'm no expert...but if you can only train 2 days in a row w/ days days off to recover why not train upper body one day followed by lower the next. Then rest the 2 days for some recovery. Repeat...

I personally w/ a lot of people i know use GNC Mega Men Vitamin.

The way you worded that is a little misleading Jmonty. Are you saying you can only train two days a week, and they are in a row, Or are you saying you can train say monday/tuesday, then off wed/thurs, then on fri/sat?

either way your nto wasting your time. Doing something is always better then sitting on your ass man. Do what you can with what you have.

Upper/Lower split than rest on work days. Better than no exercise at all. Clean diet.

damn...48 hours straight? Whats your MOS (please dont give me the code as I'm USMC and wont have a clue)?

So you pretty much work 3 days (1 of which gives you an opportunity to workout) and 1 day off, repeat. I bet it takes a lot to go to the gym on that 1 workday because thats how i feel after i wake up at 0400 and get off work at 1830-1900.

Is it possible for you to prepare your meals ahead of time and take them into work and eat them every couple hours? If so, are you doing this now? If not, thats where i would start and do the upper lower split. That works out to doing each body part 2x/week.

i'm in the Med Evac, as a crewchief. like a gunner on a helo, and i maintain it, but i don't have a crewserved weapon.

mostly work is easy, sitting around waiting for a mission, as i would imagine fire man do, but we have to stay in our work area.

the lack of variety of food plus seeing people blown up and shit really kills my appetite.

2 days on and 2 days off isn't that bad. You can still do almost any routine and have great results as long as your eating well.
